Pelican Doing A Bit Of Afternoon Fishing
Earlier this week I was watching a young brown pelican fishing in the salt marsh. The brown pelicans fish by plunging themselves head first into the water from flight, or by just plunging their head into the water from where they float. It never fails to amaze me how large their huge mouth pouch expands as they filter out the water leaving just their captured meal to be swallowed.

Such a comical addition to the cast Phil. Fabulous series. I paricularly like number 2.
Thanks much Adrian, glad you like the goofy pelican!
Pretty cool!
Thanks for looking Sally!
Loved the photos, especially the front perspective. On the third photo I almost felt like was lunch!
Thanks, glad you liked them. The pelicans are kind of comical birds and often look like they have goofy expresions which makes them fun to photograph.

Thanks a lot Molly! Sometimes we will get a pelican that does not care if you get close, which helps in getting better pics.
OMG ! These are awesome shots. I thought I love the second one, than I saw the one where his mouth is wide open and that is fantastic ! Hope you found me in spam a lot again.
Thanks very much Emily, so glad you liked these!
Your issue looks to be fixed as far as my spam folder goes…I have not found you there recently.
He must be the loud mouth of the marsh! Lol!
He could be. He did not say much to me though, guess he was too busy fishing.
They look so goofy straight on. It’s hard not to love these clowns.
That’s exactly right Shelly! I can’t help myself spending time photographing them whenever I get the chance, they sure are goofy.
