“This Should Be Easy!”
Or… maybe not.
A tricolored heron plucked a small eel out of the muck in the marsh pond and thought he had himself a nice tidy little snack. The eel however had other ideas and wrapped itself around the heron’s bill turning what initially looked like a quick easy meal into a big problem…
Oops. Mr. Heron’s eyes tell me he wasn’t planning on that. I hope it released, and he was able to have his snack! I like the colors, and that vegetation. Nice and complimentary!
He eventually did drop the eel which got to live another day. 🙂
Glad you liked these Tri photos!
Furba la piccola anguilla, gli ha bloccato il becco attorcigliandosi sopra 🙂
Ottimi scatti come sempre caro Phil
Ciao, Patrizia
Sì, lui è un po anguilla intelligente e ha ottenuto via!
He he he… amazing! This should be his spagetti 🙂 Thanks and Love, nia
He loves his spaghetti! Thanks for looking Nia!
I love the action. So what happened next?
I’m with Lyle… do we get a follow-up?
The eel got away and presumably lived to swim another day. I got no pics of that though because I was distracted by an incoming bomber (GBH) 🙂
Well the Tri did drop the eel which got away. I have no pics of that action because I was distracted by a GBH flying in.
“This wasn’t meant to happen ……..!”
The little eel was lucky this time as it worked itself free which is not usually the case. Nine times out of ten the eel gets swallowed.
such an interesting capture! 🙂
Thanks for checking these out!
He looks like he is sort of confused 😀 Cool shots, Phil!
The Tri was confused but the eel knew what it was dong and it got away. 🙂
Smart eel! That is one way not to be swallowed.
It was a smart eel and those tactics worked! The eel got away.
What an elegant eater 🙂 Terrific details, Phil. How are you?
That Tri did his best to make eel eating look casual, but the crafty eel was smart and got away!
I’m hanging in but guess what the latest bad news is… My Nexus 7 tablet died yesterday. I just can’t catch a break in 2014, it has just been an awful year. 😦
Oh boy :(. It is not the end of the first quarter yet. It should get better, Phil.
I can only hope.
May I ask a silly question? I am not an astrologer, but when is your birthday?
May 31
You should be OK, Phil. I am a believer 🙂
That’s good to hear! 🙂
Excellent photos Phil! Are the white pelicans still at the park?
Thanks for checking these out Gareth and glad you like them!
No WPs for a while, may have to wait until next season now.
This is hilarious, Phil. The eel was no fool. He knew that if he could keep the beak closed, he was in with a sporting chance. 🙂 What was the outcome?
That eel was no fool indeed AND he got away! The Tri will have to work harder next time.
Good for him!! 🙂
Doesn’t happen often but occasionally the eel wins one! 🙂
Very cool photo! Glad to hear the eel one, although feel a little bad that the egret went hungry.
Finally one eel gets away but this boy didn’t stay hungry long.
What a capture!! Great work!!
I’m very happy you enjoyed it, thanks for looking!
Mm, glad my dinner doesn’t do that! smashing couple of shots Phil!
Oh it always make dinner so much more unpleasant if it moves around on you and tries to tie you up or get away. 😉
Thanks Adrian!
