Having A Good Time
It was a beautiful afternoon today and there was some bird activity over at the salt marsh. We saw several egrets, great blue herons, white ibis, terns, and two bald eagles soaring high overhead. But this brown pelican in particular seemed to be really having a good time enjoying the warm sunshine and getting in a little fishing!
He does seem a happy sort. You are lucky to have such a great assortment of birds to enjoy, Phil.
He does seem rather care free. We do get some interesting and fun birds for sure Steve.
Wonderful shots, Phil. I really like Pelicans.
Thanks Andrew and yes indeed the pelicans are fun goofy birds.
As always, terrific photos. Your blog is a joy!
Great to know you enjoy the blog and the photos, thanks!
What marvelous detail. I can almost count each feather. I especially like the cowlick. 🙂
Yes that little cowlick these guys get is rather comical indeed!
Wonderful – excellent captured… 🙂
I’m very happy you enjoyed them thanks much!
Excellent work and beautiful detail.
I appreciate that Jan thank you.
I wouldn’t like to have a double chin like this one, but it can come in handy :D. No offence attended Mr Pelican, you are quite photogenic 😉
Some of the alligators really have a huge double chin but I generally refrain from making fun of them over it.
Pelicans are fun Paula!
Terrific detail, Phil! What lovely eyes the pelican has! I hope the sun’s warmth did your poor back some good.
Thanks for checking these out Maggie and yes the nice spring weather has improved things for me.
Sono foto stupende, il pellicano è bellissimo, non lo immaginavo così bello 🙂
Ciao, Patrizia
Grazie Mille Pat!
Oh my goodness, Phil! I’ve never seen a pelican smile before. Fantastic close-ups. I think I can see his tonsils in the third shot. 😀
He did look like a happy guy!
You are right Sylvia you can indeed see all the way to the tonsils! 🙂
These pictures are so great!!!! You captured the amazing spirit of a pelican, they are amazing, and all these pictures are what pelicans are, they are so great!!!! Beautiful creatures and beautiful pictures!!!!.
I truly appreciate your very kind comments and I’m glad you enjoyed the pelican photos!
He looks relaxed, and happy! I love the feathers on his head. I like the close shots, and I got a kick out of the last photo. Such detail. What a soft eye he has :).
He is a big fun goofy guy and I always enjoy watching and photographing pelicans.
I have never seen a pelican this close 🙂 Great shot, Phil.
This big guy did not mind at all that I was there watching him and that’s just how I like it!
It’s always better fishing in the sun! That last shot is detailed and remarkable.
If this guy tells fish stories to his friends I can prove he is embellishing, because all he ever plucked out were mouthfuls of tiny minnows and shrimp. Glad you liked the pelican pics.
Incredible clarity in these images 🙂
Hey I’m glad you enjoyed them, thanks much!
I love this series… I’ve never seen a pelican this close! What a beauty!
Well I’m thrilled you enjoyed seeing the big guy up close, thanks!
The pelican almost looks as if he’s laughing. Which means I’m laughing right along with him, of course!
It’s actually OK even to laugh *at* the pelicans, it’s the alligators we don’t want to laugh at too much. They are very sensitive and we never want any hurt feelings out there.
I am taking your advice on laughing ‘with’ the alligators!
It really is for the best that way.
