Feeding Frenzy!
This past weekend we were surprised by a fascinating and unusual event in the salt marsh. A huge number of great and snowy egrets, white ibis, and wood storks all converged in one small area during low tide and began a feeding frenzy on the small fish which were jumping everywhere. Fights, arguments, and disagreements broke out all over, especially when one bird caught a fish. The squawking was continuous and incredibly loud which added to the frenetic nature of the event which lasted for over an hour.

Nice to hang out with friends though whatever they were eating may not be so amused.

The fish seem to always get the worst of every situation, whether it’s a group of birds or a hungry alligator, it’s never good news for the fish.

Thanks Paula! Yeah the sound was almost deafening, they were really going at it, but it was hysterical too at the same time. 🙂 We kept shaking our heads and laughing.

Wow, how very cool!! I love the capture in your 6th photo with the two birds – are they upset with each other?

Thanks much, glad you liked those!
Oh yeah, they were full on fighting! But, after just a few seconds they were right back to fishing. That’s what almost all the birds were doing, a small bit of fighting, then lots more fishing. 🙂

It was pretty cool for sure Coreen, but honestly we were spending a lot of time just looking and laughing. You couldn’t help it, these birds were going nuts (I have some video which shows it better) and making a huge racket the entire time.
Thanks a bunch for looking!

Well done. On a related note, on the golf course last night I was surprised to see what appeared to be a herd of Canada Geese – the protected migratory bird that has established permanent residence.

Thanks. Yeah Canada Geese are pretty much like pigeons, they are everywhere.
