Almost Bedtime…

Last night we saw this baby alligator (we refer to any alligator 4 feet or less as a “baby”) pop it’s little head up out of the water in the marsh. The late evening back lighting caused the little guy’s head to silhouette, while creating interesting swirl patterns in the water.

  1. By the way, this is Molly. I tried to change my screen name, but this site used part of my email address when I signed up and I can’t seem to change it. I just wanted you to know that your #1 fan has not deserted you!

    • Hey Molly! Great to know it’s you and I really like the new screen name and avatar pic!
Thanks for the heads up and nice to know you are still here on board! 😀
As always I appreciate your interest!

  2. That’s some baby you got there! I’d love a shot at some of your birds, but the alligators… not so much. But I do agree with other comments here. The water is phenomenal. What created the lighting (and the slight purple tint to the first shot?)

    • Ah you know you love the alligators! They are everybody’s pal! 😀
The water looked that way due to the evening setting sun backlighting the scene. I exposed for the water and let the gator go dark. The purple tint also appears as a result of sun reflecting off the edges of the water ripples. No post processing was used, these are basaically right out of the camera.

See some purple tint also on this skimmer photo under similar lighting conditions. 🙂

  3. Thanks for the link…. so truly marvelous shots in that slideshow. I’ve never seen skimmers around here. They’re lovely. Sorry, but I need to really work on developing a love for the ‘gators… could be more than I can manage. 😉

    • I’m really glad you enjoyed seeing all the skimmer photos! It is an amazing bird to watch and a challenging subject to photograph.
Keep working on the alligators…you’ll come around. 😯 😀 😉

  4. That’s great photography. Oh, they are just so silent, and lurking…. Ugh! Imagine a quick swim across that lake…
