I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.
This was tonight’s sunset at the Waccamaw River here in the coastal South Carolina area. The second photo was taken with the 8mm lens.

a fish-eye view perhaps? 😀
Yes indeed, a fisheye. I only use it occasionally. The first one was taken with the 16-35 at 16 but using a crop sensor camera I don’t get 16.
Magnificent Phil. Absolutely magnificent! Robyn
Thanks so much Robyn, glad you like it!
Beautiful capture! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you much Becky I appreciate it!
Stunning!! The 8mm Fisheye is incredible.
Thanks so much Andrew, and yes the fisheye can produce some good results at times for sure!
The fish eye’s quite appropriate, considering … but do alligators see red? They’re wonderful shots of a stunning sunset, though I think the last set you posted pip this one for drama.
There actually are a lot of alligators in the river and as hard as I looked last night I didn’t see any. 🙂
Thanks much for checking these out!
Absolutely beautiful Phil.
Thanks a million Jan!
I can never get enough of your sunset pictures, Phil! These are beautiful and the reflection in the water simply doubles the beauty.
Thank you very much Maggie, glad you liked these sunsets pics! There is actually a bar right there on the river where you can enjoy a beverage along with this view. 😀
These pictures are wonderful ! I never seen a sunset like that where i live … So thank you for sharing ! // Maria
We are blessed with many such sunsets in our area Maria. Thank you very much I’m happy you enjoyed these!
There is so much harmony in your photos, great stuff! ☼
Thank you I appreciate it. 🙂
Take my breath away… Thank you for the gorgeous post. Happy Sunday, Phil!
Thanks a million Amy! Hope you enjoy your Sunday!
Love those deep colours. Much post-pic processing or not?
Thanks, glad you like these. In general I do very little PP. I only shoot jpegs and will do some brightness and contrast adjustments and occasionally minor color tweaks but that’s about it. One thing I did do here was switch from AWB over to Shade WB when taking the pics.
Wow! These are both so amazing, Phil. 🙂
So glad you enjoyed these Sylvia!
They ran the first one during our 11pm TV News last night for a weather shot.
Spectacular!
Thanks so much Deb!
Another beauty Phil!!
Thanks Adrian!
They ran the first one during our 11pm TV News last night for a weather shot.

Thanks a lot Scott
Wow, that was amazing.
Thanks very much Charlie!
Woooow!! That place looks awesome 🙂
Yes it can be very nice there and it’s even better because there is a bar right on the river where you can get a drink and a snack then sit back and enjoy the view. 😀
Hahahahaha the bar owner has a good opportunity to make some money for sure! :p
Beautiful and dramatic colors!
This was one of those ‘after the sunset’ sunsets. The good colors did not pop out until later. 🙂
Wonderful colors.
We were happy to be there for this one. 🙂
WOW ! These are stunning ! Love the 8mm effect. Makes me want one. 🙂
Thanks Emily but it gets even better because there is a bar right on the river where you can get a drink and a snack then sit back and enjoy the view. 🙂
Back before Christmas B&H had a 2 day sale on a Rokinon 8mm fisheye for $214 so for that price I had to grab it.
It’s full manual everything but that’s OK.
Wow! These are stunning, Phil.
Thanks very much Lucy, so glad you like these!
Beautiful!
Thanks! I really appreciate you looking and commenting!
Absolutely beautiful! 🙂
