Time Lapse Of Afternoon Sky And Clouds

I have been fooling around lately with doing short time lapse videos.

Here is a 19 second time lapse of the afternoon sky and clouds taken today.

I wanted to run it longer but stopped taking the images when the sun came out so strongly.

This was 440 photos, one taken every five seconds, to make this 19 second video.

  1. Kind of strange Phil, I have been doing the same thing. I have shot about 2800 shots in a day and put them together for about a 4 minute film. I have done a couple of the sunset and they turned out well. I have been doing some experimenting with batch processing in Photoshop and that has made it so I get a little more definition in my clouds the only drawback being that you have to write an action that is about midway for the brighter shots and the darker shots and I just start the processing before I go to bed and they are done when I get up. I have been using Photolapse to put them together and it does a decent job. There is a software for putting star trails together that is suppose to do time lapse too. I am going to try that next to see how it works. It is not really for time lapse but they say it will do it. Here is a link to one of mine if you are interested. Panning is cool as is zooming it just takes some time to do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvgDrl7I74Q&feature=plcp

    • I have also used photoshop for batch processing of the images but only for a very minor tweaking and resizing. Then use Quick Time Pro to make the final video.
I have made a few others, it’s just something to do for fun. 🙂

  2. Coreen, I used a regular DSLR to make this video, but if you happen to have an iphone (or presumably another similar type of phone) there are some quick and easy ways to make a time lapse using that device.
