Almost Bedtime…
Last night we saw this baby alligator (we refer to any alligator 4 feet or less as a “baby”) pop it’s little head up out of the water in the marsh. The late evening back lighting caused the little guy’s head to silhouette, while creating interesting swirl patterns in the water.

Hi Phil,
great shots, I love the water looks like velvet and silk ♥
Wish you a nice Sunday

Wonderful images, Phil. That water looks really magical, but even though he’s only a baby alli, I don’t think I’d join him at his swimming party. 🙂

Awww…he’s only a baby, you could wrap him up and take him home. Think of all the fun!! 😀

You’re quite persuasive Phil, but I’m not convinced. 😆

Well in the meantime, as you consider it (which I’m sure you are, heh heh) I won’t say anything to him about the potential adoption. Don’t want to get the little tyke’s hopes up unnecessarily. 😉 😀

Actually…that’s probably for the best. Moonlight swims in that pond will likely not end well.
Not for you or me anyway. 😯
Thanks a bunch for looking! 😀

These are lovely Phil. I like the way the water appears viscous in these images. The silhouette effect is wonderful.

The water looks like a mercury whirlpool – fantastic light for the little guy to see what was around, I guess.

The look of the water was what I liked about these pics as well! I don’t know if he liked it not. Kinda hard to tell sometimes. 😕 😀
Thanks for looking!

You know, your baby’s head was just the dark centre of the whirlpool in my imagination 🙂

Great pics! I love the fluidity of the water in your shots. Funny how baby gator to you is under 4 feet and when I picture a baby gator I think footlong…like an iguana.

Thanks much Kitt!! Yeah it’s funny, we see the ‘little’ head pop up and we always say…”oh, look, a baby is out!”

That’s some baby you got there! I’d love a shot at some of your birds, but the alligators… not so much. But I do agree with other comments here. The water is phenomenal. What created the lighting (and the slight purple tint to the first shot?)

Ah you know you love the alligators! They are everybody’s pal! 😀
The water looked that way due to the evening setting sun backlighting the scene. I exposed for the water and let the gator go dark. The purple tint also appears as a result of sun reflecting off the edges of the water ripples. No post processing was used, these are basaically right out of the camera.
See some purple tint also on this skimmer photo under similar lighting conditions. 🙂

Thanks for the link…. so truly marvelous shots in that slideshow. I’ve never seen skimmers around here. They’re lovely. Sorry, but I need to really work on developing a love for the ‘gators… could be more than I can manage. 😉

Keep working on the alligators…you’ll come around. 😯 😀 😉

Fabulous silhouette pics, Phil. I can almost hear the Jaws music playing in the backgorund – yep, I know that all wrong, its not a shark but the music would fit 🙂
