One thing I can say about this osprey photo from yesterday morning…I would not want to be a fish and have that bird looking down at me like that with it’s skyhooks at the ready to pluck me out of the water!

Awesome shot of this osprey. You’re right: I don’t wan’t to be a fish, when he’s circling in the sky. 🙂

Thanks very much! This was not a good day to be a fish. I saw the osprey pluck out a nice fish but it got jumped by a bald eagle. The osprey dropped the fish and nobody got it.

I do like my gulls (because of the elegance they have in flight) but nothing comes close to the power displayed by a Bird of Prey – you have captured the menace and beauty at the same time here Phil

Oh it’s a look alright. 😯 Later I saw the osprey pluck out a nice fish from the salt marsh but it got jumped by a bald eagle. The osprey ended up dropping the fish so nobody got it.

Glad you like this osprey shot Paula, but I’ll tell you, as menacing as this bird looks, it was jumped soon after catching a fish by a bald eagle. Those eagles can be nasty. 🙂

I do have pics of him flying right toward me when he took off after the osprey, I’ll probably post some at some point.
He flew so close over my head that I got choked with too much lens and only got body parts on some images.

Yes it is an intense look.
I have seem this frequently where an eagle will sit in a tree and wait for an osprey to catch a fish, and then swoop in and try to take it. Often the eagle is more then happy to let another bird do all the work and then attempt to reap the benefits.
