Morning Flight In Blue
On Thursday morning I saw this great blue heron flying across the marsh pond looking quite purposeful. The blue heron is one of my all time favorite birds and I particularly liked the way this one looked with the blue water background.

He looks like a jet-propelled airplane, or one of those Pterosaurs from Jurassic Park. 🙂 Great capture again, Phil.

This is my favorite bird, too, with hummingbirds a close second. Herons really make you believe in dinosaurs, don’t they?

Yes Kate they do look rather prehistoric don’t they?! 😀

Mine too Phil. I’m fortunate to see one most mornings flying overhead when I leave work and it is one of the most majestic birds

I’m not sure how you can pick a favorite with all the wonderful birds you have hanging out in your swamp. I feel incredibly lucky to catch one of these great creatures only every now and then, and they’re usually rather skittish.

I am fortunate in the variety of birds I can potentially see. Not every day by any means, sometimes I don’t see much at all, but other times we get a nice crowd. 🙂

Are they as shy in your marsh as they are here on the bay? Everytime I discover one, they fly off before I can capture a shot. Love them and their squawking

It’s funny, I can usually tell the ‘regulars’ from the new arrivals. The regulars in the area often completely ignore me and other photographers, bird watchers, tourists etc., and you can you can sometimes practically walk right up to them and they don’t care. The new arrivals will take off, but if they stick around long enough they too can get to the point where they don’t mind if I’m around. I watched a GBH hanging around the marsh this morning in fact for a while and it never even looked at me as best as I can tell. I got a nice series as it flew off which I may not post tomorrow since I just put up a GBH, so I may instead do some little alligator pals I saw this morning for tomorrow’s post. 🙂

I’m jealous..now to go and train my GBH to just hang out like yours does. 🙂

Try talking to them nicely. I talk to them all the time especially when I want them to do something that I think will make a good picture. Sadly however, they rarely listen to me, and they don’t seem to take direction as well as I hope they would. But you should really give it a try, maybe they will listen to you. 😀
