A Very Busy Eagle
This bald eagle was all over the salt marsh yesterday afternoon. It was using a nearby pine tree as a base of operations from where it would swoop down and grab a fish and then bring the fish back to the tree to eat. We saw it do that several times.
I have quite a few photos of this whole event and will post more tomorrow but for now I just wanted to give you an idea of how close it flew over our heads at one point on it’s way back to home base with a fish.

hope he is out in the morning.
There were two out this afternoon.
nice pic
Thanks
Excellent shot. Hope he enjoyed his meal.
He sure looked like he enjoyed it. He bit off the head of the fish. 😯
Isn’t he your pet yet ? Surely he knows you well and loves to visit while you’re around.
He just got tired of the alligators getting all the screen time around here. I understood the message loud and clear when he buzzed me. He came in close, I got several frames that were just body parts. 😀
Looks like he got the memo, and decided to carry the fish in his talons like a REAL eagle. And that glare on his face – I SWEAR he’s the spitting image of my ex-wife! 🙂
After the previous public embarrasment of being caught flying with a fish in his mouth, it does indeed look like he got the memo. Many dive bombing my head was a little hint. 🙂
Sorry to bring up bad memories of your ex. 😯
Those eyes are amazing. Fabulous shot Phil. 🙂
Thanks a million Adrian, I’m very happy you liked this pic!
A very nice pic ole baldy. I laughed at one of the comments about an ex-wife. That was too funny. Made me smile.
Thanks, yes I got a chuckle out of that one too! 😀
WOW! I can see his meal…. amazing, amazing. Thank you dear Phil, love, nia
Thank you Nia I am glad you saw his meal and liked the photo!
Awesome, can’t wait to see the rest!
Thanks much Sally! Part One of the series is coming up shortly!
Can’t wait!
Live now. 🙂
What a wonderful capture. I too liked the ex-wife comment. Woman give that look a lot.
Thanks for checking out the pic and glad you like it!
I was so taken with the expression in his eye I missed the fish at first. It looks like they carry their dinner a little different than the osprey I watch – I always worry the osprey are going to drop their fish. They look like a blimp with its little gondola hanging down!
I’m anxious to see the other photos. This one’s a stunner!
The eagles will do that also, they sometimes hold a fish, especially a smaller one, using just one talon so it kind of dangles and wobbles as they fly. Of course often when we see an osprey flying along with a fish, an eagle soon comes charging in after it.
I’m happy you like this photo and Part One of the series will be up shortly!
Beautiful photo. He really seems intent on getting to his dinner!
Thanks Molly, he was happy with his fish I’m sure. The way he bit off it’s head made me think he was enjoying it very much. 🙂
Eagerly awaiting more!
Thanks Andrew, Part One of the series will be up today. 🙂
Absolutely stunning… but then I think I say that to you all of the time Phil! Your work is amazing!
Hi LSD! Thanks very much for your kind comments, I’m really happy you like my photos!
Wow, that is very close, Phil. He looks very pleased with himself. 🙂
Thanks Sylvia, he was very happy with his fishing success I’m sure. The way he bit off it’s head made me think he was enjoying his catch very much. 😀
“The way he bit off his head”……….way too much information for my lunchtime, Phil. 😆
It might be too much information for *anytime*, however I still somehow felt compelled to share it. 😆
Wait until you see pics. 😯 😀
So now we have teasers on your blog?
You sure do! 😀
Part One is up today and Part Two of the saga will be up tomorrow. Will you be able to sleep tonight?! 😯 🙂
A great shot!
Kind of “bulls eye” I think! Well done!
Thank you Hans! I appreciate you looking!
Whoa! Yes close indeed!
Yes it was close, that’s pretty much full frame. Thanks for checking out the pic!
Very close indeed Phil, great shot.
Thank you Jan, I appreciate you checking out the photo!
Such a stunning close shot! Looking forward to seeing more. Thank you, Phil! Have a great weekend.
Thank you for your kind comments Amy! Part One of the series is up now! 🙂
Magnificaaaaaaaaaa!!!
Grazie Pat 🙂
I do like that angle with the feet holding the fish against the backlit tail feathers.
Thanks very much! This actually happened after the previous two posts I just made.
The eagle went in and grabbed another fish, this time it took the fish from a GBH in the marsh.
Tomada en el momento exacto!
Thank you very much!
