Just Passing By
This afternoon in the salt marsh an egret was marching purposefully along as it hunted for fish. At one point it passed by this brown pelican who had been fishing but was taking a break at the moment. Notice how the two birds totally ignore each other and never even change expression. But then again…it may have been more a case of the egret snubbing the pelican since the egret has likely lost fish to him and is not feeling particularly friendly.

LOL – they look like they are just tolerating each others presence.
Great shots!
I think that’s what they were doing. 🙂 Thanks!
Great shots Phil.
Thanks a lot Jan.
Great fun, I do love your photos and back story information.
I’m so happy you enjoy the photos and stories!
That’s so funny, Phil, but don’t we do just the same? We pass by so many fellow human beings every day, with never a flicker of a smile. 😕
Oh absolutely. The last time somebody stole one of my fish and then I saw him again on the street I completely ignored him. 😐 😦 😀
😆 Thanks, Phil, I just nearly choked to death. 😯
Oops 😳 sorry Sylvia. 😀
That one made me laugh! Now my wife’s looking at me like I’m crazy… of course, she may be right! ;o)
My wife looks at me like that all the time! 😀
Isn’t the interaction between birds and animals endlessly fascinating, as we try to work out what they are thinking? Lovely pictures, Phil.
Yes Maggie I always try to talk for them imagining what I suspect they might be saying and thinking. Maybe sometimes I’m even right, but in any case it’s part of the fun in it! 🙂
Smashing series Phil. 🙂
Thanks a bunch Adrian! 😀
Fun to learn about birds a little more everyday from your post 🙂
I’m very happy you enjoy the photos and info Amy!
Beautiful. Quite a difference in beak size.
Thanks, yes two very different beaks and two very different fishing styles. The pelicans hit the water like they were just tossed out of a moving vehicle. Not extremely graceful.
I really enjoy these moments that you capture. Each one minding their own business, sort of like being in a big city.
Thank you Emily, I’m happy you like these pics and yes indeed very similar to people behavior especially in a city. 🙂
Very nice pictures Phil! I love to watch those pelicans dive into the water. Such power! When will the Spoonbills be back in the park? I am anxiously awaiting their return.
Thanks a bunch Beverly so glad you liked these photos!
Spoonies may not come in until early July, that has been their pattern. Although we had one individual last year in May.
I wish that we had birds like these, where i live … but we haven´t … So i really enjoy your photos of them. // Maria
