Crab Salad
Yesterday evening I saw this alligator come up with a mouth full of pond weeds along with a tasty blue crab. I could hear the shell crunch as the gator chomped down on it’s evening meal. The alligator didn’t seem to mind all the greens, especially since there was no extra charge…a salad is included with all crab dinners currently being served in the marsh pond!

I was so excited when I read the title of your post, Phil. I thought you were going to share a super new recipe for crab salad. That alligator is so good to eat all his greens. 🙂 Great photos as always.
That is the recipe for crab salad. 😕
Ha! 😉 Thanks Sylvia! As always I appreciate you looking and commenting!
Nice, I can see the crab legs hanging out his mouth. I guess they don’t spit out the greens do they?
I don’t think they usually eat all the green stuff, they sort of chomp and try to separate out the crab from the weeds as best they can I guess. But if they do swallow some weeds I’m sure it won’t kill them. 🙂
I’m just salad, I swear! 😉
Always be kind to your vegetables. 😀
You have the titles, Phil! Great shot.
I meant you have the BEST titles, Phil!
Thanks Jane, so glad you like them!
Looks good, bar the shell of course although a good source of calcium I’m sure. Smashing pictures Phil! 🙂
It sure sounded crunchy!
Thanks Adrian!
The alligator listened to Mom – eat your vegetables … good boy!
That’s right, he is a good boy! 🙂
Well, it looks like he had one complete meal, proteins and all.
Excellent photos as always, Phil.
Yes Gracie a very complete meal and not too fattening. Although…I think they want to be fatter. 🙂
What a great salad…. No, I said wrong, this guy is great, Mr.Alligator 🙂
Ha ha thank you Nia, so glad you like Mr. Alligator.
Wow Phil, grea
Wow Phil, excellent shots of this amazing creature.
Thanks very much Jan glad you liked Mr. Gator.
Very detailed snapshot of Mr. Gator!
He is a good looking boy and really enjoys his meal!
He eats the shell and all!
Well, I love crab salad also, but I do remove the shells. They are a bit too hard and crunchy for me.
Great shots!
There is nothing going to waste with these boys! They eat the shell, the weeds, the mud, whatever they come up with, it all goes down the hatch!
Thanks!
I hope I will not become a crab like this in my next life 😀
Yes me too. 😯 Poor crabby just wandering around in the marsh enjoying his day when suddenly he gets crunched. Yikes
And i’m sure it a totally innocent crab !
I hope he didn’t have a family. 😉
Oh ! Noooooo !!! I did not think about that aspect of this tragedy !!!!
Wow you don’t want to get to close to those jaws. Wonderfully captured.
I’m sure crabby is very sorry he got that close. 😦 Oh well, so it goes in nature.
Excellent photos, Phil! I can just “hear” the crunch! Egad!
Thanks a bunch! Yes I did hear the crunch and knew before I saw it that the gator had a crab rather then a fish.
Not only are you a great photographer, you are also extremely witty!
Well I greatly appreciate your very kind comments Molly! 😀
Great shots! Funny post! 🙂
Thanks much Rick, glad you enjoyed it!
The salad comment made me smile. As they say, the flavour comes through in the crunch … and a good post.
There must have been some good flavor coming through because there was a pretty loud crunch. 🙂
Phil those shots are stunning – I love the composition and the colours of the water complement his ‘armour’ so well! They really are magnificent creatures.
Thank you very much Lucy so glad you enjoyed these photos! Yes these guys are amazing creatures for sure!
Fun to watch him enjoying the crab salad 🙂 Great shots!
Thanks a million Amy, I’m happy you liked these photos!
Clever title Phil…great capture. The things you see are amazing. Thanks for sharing your world, your visions, and your talent! Blessings, Robyn
I really appreciate you looking and commenting Robyn and thank you for your kind words!
Love the story with these pics, Phil! They hold a kind of grim fascination, watching the hapless crab disappear!
Thank you Maggie, and yes poor crabby did not have a good day.
Love your title, text and your great photos . This guy has taken crabsalad to a new level and give the crabsalad a new meaning … at least for me … // Maria
I’m very glad you enjoyed seeing these photos and that you liked the story Maria!
The texture in this series is wonderful. It really makes them special.
Thanks Emily! It is cool to see these guys grab something out of the marsh!
