Wood Storks In Love?!
Earlier this week I noticed this pair of wood storks close together in the salt marsh at low tide. At first they both seemed to be just fishing, then I saw that they were getting more than a little friendly. When I saw that they apparently started grooming each other I had to move in for a closer look. Yes…these two sure looked like they were in love. It must be Spring!

Lovely serie of photo!
Great photowork!
Thank you very much Hans!
Oh, with their long fluffy plumage they look almost like swans – or at least ballerinas in swan tutus! Fabulous. 🙂
Well sure that fluffy white plumage looks a bit elegant, but then you see their faces… 😯 🙂
Ummm … I agree, they’re rather lugubrious looking creatures – all they need is a pair of pince nez to look like a cartoon of an old spinster teacher!
You really captured a great moment in time in these photos. Nice!
Thank you I was happy to have seen it. 🙂
Who says opposites attract?!
I know, in this case it looks more like similarity attracts. 🙂
Great photos, as usual. That second one in particular. Nice.
Thanks David, so glad you liked these pics of the wood storks.
Great catch on the behavior. You were paying attention. Nice shots!
Thanks, I was happy I noticed what was going because they were quickly gone after I got these shots.
Aaaaw……….such a cute pair of lovers, Phil. 🙂 Spring is definitely in the air.
I guess they are sorta cute, those faces are a bit rough but I’m sure they look beautiful to each other. 😀
Very poetic images 🙂 for a second there I imagined myself attending a ballet performance 🙂
Yes except the ballet dancers are generally a bit more attractive then the faces on this pair.
I tease because I love. 🙂
😀
Great captures. They have such beautiful bodies but do I daresay such ugly heads 🙂
Thanks Edith, and yes those faces are a bit rough to look at. Well for us anyway, I’m they like how each other looks just fine. 🙂
Of course they are in love … what else?! ♥♥♥
Looks like love to me! 😀
Fotografie stupende!
Complimenti
ciao
.marta
Grazie Marta!
Love in the swamp… it’s always an adventure when you’re around to capture it.
I’m always happy when I’m around to witness something interesting. When I’m home all I can think about is what’s going on that I’m missing.
Oh, I know that feeling so well when I look out to see a particularly colorful sunset…. though the fog might obscure it completely out at the beach. How many times have I raced out to find the horizon perfectly grey and dull.
I accidentally found your blog. I’ll quickly comment…nice work… before continuing my browsing.
Thanks much I appreciate you looking and commenting!
Spring Awakening, love bloomed to life.
Beautiful photos.
LG Mathilda ♥
It does look like Springtime love! Danke Mathilda
Great captures Phil.
Thank you Jan, glad you like these wood stork pics!
Great Series Phil. There’s someone for everyone.. 🙂
That is quite true Adrian! 🙂 Thanks for your kind comments.
Oh dear Phil, they really made a show to your camera… fascinated me all of them. Thank you, love, nia
They did make a nice show! Thank you Nia!
I really enjoyed this set of photos, Phil! Isn’t it great when you stumble into unusual activity or something not normally witnessed in nature?
I’m so glad you enjoyed these and yes it is great to see something unusual or out of the ordinary.
Terrific photos!
Thanks so much!
I agree, a great set of images. They make a splendid pair.
They do make quite the pair don’t they?! Thanks
Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder and by the looks of the wood storks, they seem to be besotted with each other! Very touching…
They do seem to be quite taken with each other and it was fun to see. Thanks very much Judi.
Bellissime, bellissime, bellissime……..
E’ arrivato venerdì.
E allora ti auguro un sereno week-end.
Un sorriso,
Luciana
Grazie mille. Spero che ti piace il tuo week-end
Cheers,
Phil
Beautiful photos! I’ve never seen wood storks in my life, but now I have thanks to you! 😉
Well I’m very happy you got to see this interesting and unusual pair and thanks for looking and commenting!
You’re welcome Phil! 😉
Wonderful! Let these lovelies love, love, love… 🙂 And keep nesting!
I was happy to see them and I know they will be around in greater numbers as summer approaches. 🙂
They look almost as though they are mirror-imaging, like the grebes when they dance. So sweet!
Yes they are quite the pair aren’t they?! Thanks Maggie!
You captured that most beautiful postures, happy moments…. Thank you for sharing, Phil!
I’m glad you liked these wood stork photos Amy!
Hello Phil,
stunning series, I love the 2nd pic ♥
Great captured, great work!
Wish you a nice weekend,
moni
Hi moni, so glad you liked these, hope you enjoy your weekend!
Lovely shots! Their heads looks like burned wood, so their name fit quite well.
Thanks very much! They sure do have interesting and unusual heads. 🙂
Bizarre and beautiful! Great images.
They are odd birds and not much to look at up close but are quite elegant flyers. Thanks for looking!
Again you´ve succeeded with your photo serie ! I love their fluffy plumage, their long beak … but the face…
At first i thought it was ugly … When i looked at your pictures for a while, i think their faces matches their legs … And i decided that i love the contrast between the beutiful plumage and perhaps the less beutiful other part of their faces … // Maria
I am glad you like these birds Maria, they can be thought of as unpleasant to look at initially, but they grow on you. 🙂
Ah even woodstorks seem tender with each other during the season of love!! My hubbie doesn’t understand why I love these ‘ugly bald birds.’ But, I love them. Since the neck has the texture of flint like you’d strike a match on, one of their nicknames is “Old Flinthead” and I like that one. The are also called Wood Ibises and are closely related to the regular Ibis oddly I guess you can see it in the curvature of the bill.
I like them quite a bit as well although they may not have the most pleasant looking heads and faces. They are amazingly elegant flyers though.
Yes I enjoy watching the ibis along with the large waders such as these storks and of course the spoonbills. 🙂
Great photos. The question is can they keep it up. I have my doubts.
I’m really pulling for these two kids to make it! 😀
Glad you liked the pics!
I am sorry Phil these are ugly birds
Well OK I guess you can get away with that type of comment with these guys, but don’t say that about the alligators. They can be very sensitive and we don’t want to hurt any feelings. 😀
may have failed there already – ha ha -simpler to keep the Atlantic between us…. hell Terrapins made me nervous
I could send a few of my big nose and big teeth friends over for a visit. 🙂
Awww…how adorable!
They seemed to really be enjoying each other’s company! 🙂
That’s a nice photo love story.
Well it’s something a little different anyway. 🙂
Awww..so lovey dovey and fluffed up.
They do look fluffed and in love. 🙂
Beautiful – love the reflections!
