Snowball’s Big Score
This past week I saw this snowy egret doing some early morning fishing in the salt marsh. Normally we see snowys catch little minnows and tiny glass shrimp, but this guy clearly wanted a big breakfast. He plucked himself a nice size fish out of the water which should keep the little fellow full for a while!

I usually don’t see the snowys catch anything this large so I bet this guy was thrilled with his meal!
In addition to the nice shot of the catch it is really nice light on those white feathers.
Those egrets are just soooo white it’s often tough to hold detail in their feathers, but in this case even the fish looks pretty good. Well, at least to us, the fish might tell a different story if he were still around to tell it. 🙂 Yikes!
A beautiful egret, similar to this one, snatched a large carp out of a friend’s ornamental pond. A great catch for the egret and a sad day for my friend. The carp was rather expensive.
We have a friend with a pond like that and they have a great blue heron that will ‘visit’ on occasion. They are not happy when the heron plucks out on of their prizes.

Oh that snowy definitely had it going on for sure! It’s funny how some seem much better as such things then others, survival of the fittest I guess.

Oh yeah they are experts at it! Sometimes I will patiently wait for a bird to grab a fish and when they keep missing I tend to get critical but then I realize I couldn’t do it. 🙂

Oh yes, snowball did indeed get to keep and eat his big breakfast. Good one for the snowy, but not so good for our finned friend in the sea.
He is so proud of it, too! I love their feathers, and how you capture how delicate they are! Bet he was a full boy.
He did seem especially proud of his big breakfast catch and unfortunately he didn’t have all his friends around to show it off. But, it very likely did fill him up nicely. 🙂
