Surprise Pop Up

Late today, just as we were leaving the salt marsh area, I caught some quick movement out of the corner of my eye. My first was…”what’s a squirrel doing down there?!?” But of course it wasn’t a squirrel, it was our pal the cute little mink scampering along among the dried reeds and oyster beds at the edge of the marsh.

At one point he hopped into the water, swam around for a bit (no doubt looking for a fish) then popped himself right back out again, easily dripping water off his coat.

In any case it was good to see our little buddy again. We just hope he knows enough to stay out of the nearby roadway.

  1. I always get tickled at how in your area mink’s are cute – and they are cute. Who couldn’t love that face? Here they are renowned for killing chickens. To be fair though, they do keep the rodent population down, so they’re not all bad. What soulful eyes in that first photograph. Rather innocent looking, eh? 🙂

    • Wow, I never knew about them going after chickens, yikes!
In our area they mostly live close to the beach so fish would be their main diet, but I suppose they could attack ground nesting birds. Although I never heard of one taking a gull which are everywhere.
But yeah they do have that cute innocent thing going for them. 🙂

    • I was more than a little surprised to see this guy scampering around, I had not seen one in a while. Good thing a friend of our’s showed up that we talked to, because otherwise we would be gone. Sometimes things work out.
