A Particularly Exciting Catch
On a recent afternoon over at the salt marsh I was watching this great blue heron on the hunt for a late lunch.
Once he struck at the water and I saw those big wings go up I knew he was on to something. And sure enough, that excited look on his face told the whole story, he had himself a whopper!
Normally these guys will drop the wings (if they ever even put them up) and just get right to business. But this blue heron seemed so pleased with his fresh caught meal the he kept right on flapping.
The last I saw he was headed back into the reeds with his prize to enjoy it in privacy, but not until after putting on a great show!
Superb shots!!!
Hey thanks! Glad you liked them!
How fabulous!
Thanks a million Vicky, glad you liked these GBH pics!
Una super cattura, magnifici scatti, wowwww!!!
Grazie Pat!
Stunning action shots, Phil! I love the beautiful contrasts between the GBH, the water and the background!
Thanks very much Maggie, glad you liked seeing the GBH in action!
Fantastic sequence! I especially love the action of his beautifully extended wings.
It’s more fun to see one act like this with their wings all flapping around then the standard quick grab and gulp. This guy seemed quite excited!
He found his very own Burger King! Great shots.
I also don’t think this guy was counting his calories either. Super size everything please!
Wow! Great catch for the both of you!
I know I was happy to have the opportunity to see and capture the action and the GBH sure looked happy to have his nice fish. 🙂
Fantastic capture here too! Does the ambitious GBH somehow manage to fit that thing down it’s long/thin neck okay?? I would imagine the unlucky fish would be quite desperate to escape the entire time as well! Just curious if the bird really could win this battle of life and lunch? 😉
