The Day After…
After six days of thunderstorms, torrential rain and flooding from Debby, the sun came out and we went over to the marsh to check things out. There turned out to be significant activity, however not everyone was flying (or swimming) all over the place.
The first pic is a kind of a ‘Can You Spot The Alligator’ kind of deal. The next one is a drowsy looking little guy on the float in the salt marsh. Then we found a bigger dude relaxing along the edge of the marsh pond.
So that was some of the alligators out enjoying their day. We also saw spoonbills, an egret with a wriggling eel, a very excited tricolor heron fishing, and a few juvenile night herons among a good size crowd. More on them later!

We got Beryl; you got Debbie. I’m glad you’ve been able to get out and explore. Things here finally are beginning to open up again, now that trees have been cleared and roads repaired. I’ve missed my gators and such!
I really enjoyed the second and third photos of the alligator. The colors and patterning aren’t something I often see, although I did once come across one I nick-named Freckles because of a similar pattern. Is it true that alligators that look like this are younger? Someone told me that, but I’m not sure I believe it. Many of the quite small gators I see are as dusky gray and black as the big, old adults.
Love the alligators! Hope you guys faired okay with the storm. There was a lot of flooding here but we were lucky and only had yard debris.
