Best Not To Wake Him…

Yesterday afternoon I had to admit I was a bit impressed when I saw the size of this guy who was out sunbathing with two of his friends. Just look at that head, it’s huge! This had to be a 12 footer, I couldn’t fit any more in my lens than you see here. There were two other alligators behind and to the side of the sleeping giant, and one of them was quite large but not this large. The third smaller one was half in the water staying out of the way but no one seemed interested in any power moves, this day was all about the sun and warming themselves up nicely.

  1. I’ve yet to see any of our big boys basking, but I did come across some juveniles still about a foot long trailing behind their mother at a local area pond. I’m hoping to find another mother with her babies on her back this year; they’re the cutest things ever.

    • Oh a mama with babies on her back is the best thing ever! We have not seen any tiny babies yet, only some juvies that generally tuck themselves away in a sort of cove area so they can stay out of the way of the big guys.

  2. Crickey!! That made me think about all the crocodiles roaming the flooded streets in North Queensland, Australia. As if the floods weren’t enough to cope with, now the Aussies have to avoid the crocs!
