I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.
Here’s two more of the eagle from Tue. afternoon when he was swooping around the salt marsh area keeping on eye on his domain.
I was going to post more pictures from yesterday afternoon but then… the eagle showed up again this morning and I had to go with these.
The bald was first spotted standing around and relaxing in one of his favorite pine trees but the quiet didn’t last long.
Very soon the eagle was off flying out toward the marsh pond area because it was apparently breakfast time. I guess he wasn’t too hungry because he came flying back in toward the salt marsh with a small fish tucked under his tail.
He landed on a branch in a different pine and proceeded to dine on his dainty meal. After breakfast was over he took off again but this time landed out among the reeds in the salt marsh for unknown reasons. He was moving around out there a lot too but no one knew what he was up to. There wasn’t any water right in that spot and he didn’t appear to have grabbed any type of bird or animal.
Quickly however, the purpose became clear when he popped up out of the marsh with a bunch of dried reeds grasped in his talons. He was gathering up nest material! The eagle did one more swoop around then headed out toward the nest at the far back edge of the marsh.
Quite a morning for the bird…
Well the bald eagle dropped in for a visit at the salt marsh this afternoon.
He did a quick circle around, stopped off for a sit in a pine tree, then took off again in search of dinner.
He seemed to be paying a bit more attention to a snowy egret then poor snowball cared for, but thankfully the eagle lost interest and moved on to the far edge of the marsh.
I’ll have more from this visit for tomorrow’s post. 🙂
This afternoon a snowy egret was having considerable success fishing in the salt marsh during low tide.
I could tell that our pal Snowball was thrilled with his part of the activity, but the fish, um, not so much.
Merry Christmas from the marsh and best wishes for a healthy and happy new year!
Every year we get a visit from some hooded merganser ducks at a local pond who generally show up a week or two before Christmas. We didn’t have a chance to look for them until this afternoon and sure enough, there they were, Mr. and Mrs. Hoodie!
It was nice to see this cute couple still keeping the Christmas tradition alive. 🙂
A young wood stork dropped in on some of his friends in the salt marsh on a recent afternoon.
Some friends; they didn’t seem to be at all impressed with Woody’s arrival. In fact they actually appeared more bored than usual…(if that’s possible)
Looking up all I could see was a dull grey sky and assumed that was how it would be for everyone.
But when I saw this osprey gliding above me, I realized that from his view, the world must be full of all sorts of colorful and interesting sights.
