October Flights
Continuing in the tradition of showing various flight shots at the end of the month that haven’t been previously posted…here are some of October’s flight shots!
I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.
Continuing in the tradition of showing various flight shots at the end of the month that haven’t been previously posted…here are some of October’s flight shots!
These are just fantastic Phil. The light you have captured for the tricoloured heron is complimenting the bird beautifully. I’d happily hang these on my wall. 🙂
Thanks a million for those kind words! The late afternoon/early evening light such as on that tricolored is my favorite.
Hello,
I love the light on the tricolored heron, very nice.
Doy
Thank you Doy, I’m very happy you liked these shots and I did get lucky with some nice evening light on that tricolored. 🙂
They even stop mid flight to pose for you!! Are you a bird whisperer?
I often wish they would stop. They get a stiff tailwind behind them and they can really move! Thanks for looking.
Fantastiche, sono tanto belle che è difficile sceglierne una in particolare
Ciao, Pat
Sono così felice ti è piaciuto questi uccelli foto Pat!
I don’t think there is anything more beautiful than a bird in flight. Wonderful captures. Beauty in motion.
So glad you liked the BIF shots Angelia! 😀
Stunning shots, Phil . . . my father has an affinity for all birds, namely osprey. Though not much of a blogger, not at all actually, still, I will have to send him this link. I think he would enjoy your work immensely. I have as well.
~ Cara
Thank you so much for your visit Cara and I appreciate your very nice comments. I’m very glad you liked these flight shots and I hope father does as well. The osprey is a favorite of mine as well and I always enjoy watching them fish.
Dear Phil, how beautiful flights you captured. I know this is not easy photography and also should be very patience…A few weeks ago I noticed something flying over the fields. It seemed to me big and I thought that it should be a stork. But my husband didn’t think like that because all stork have left our land. Anyway it was not an easy photograph especially for me but I tried to take and make zoom. When we saw the picture we understood that it was a stork and stayed here, what happened we don’t know. But I always remember you and your amazing photographs, how I wished to take a better picture of this poor stork. Thank you dear Phil. Fascinated me again your shots. And also the title too 🙂 I would like to see November Flights too now… Love, nia
Thank you so much for looking at these bird flight photos Nia! I also greatly appreciate all your kind comments!
I did August and Sept. flights in the past and hope I will have something for November! 🙂
Oh, these are truly breathtaking shots. Phil, how do you train the birds to perform like this for the camera shots? You need to share your secret. 🙂 The Great Egret is my very BEST!!
Well I really appreciate you checking out these photos and so glad you enjoyed them Sylvia!
I liked the shadow of the bird’s head on the great egret shot. Thanks much!
Yes, that shadow is just awesome. Did you plan it, or was it just luck?
Well not planned, because things like this generally happen too quickly to plan, but not just dumb luck either. I have to use my experience from watching bird behavior to anticipate what they may do, and then position myself properly regarding the light and then have my camera all set for what I think will likely happen.
So I guess a little more goes into it then most people think. 🙂
There speaks a professional. 🙂
Thanks 🙂
I always enjoy you BIF shots! And, a Kingfisher!!! Great shots, all of them!
Thanks very much for looking and commenting Molly! I got a shot of a kingfisher with a fish in his yap this morning but it was kinda too far off to make a good pic. Hopefully next time. 🙂
Nice set Phil ! Thanks for sharing !
Thanks for checking these out Ricky! Was cold out there this morning.
Great shots as always. Though still waiting for the airborne gator.
I have seen them quickly lunge up out of the water and get some air, but not all the way out, that tail generally still drags down. 🙂
Outstanding Phil – my Dad, Grandad and I all had a mild disagreement over which one is best – families eh?
Well I’m happy you folks viewed and enjoyed these photos. And you said it…family… 😕 🙂
Each picture is beautiful. I like the colors, the (evening) light, shaddow, motion. My favorite is the kingfisher.
Thanks very much and glad you liked the kingfisher. I almost didn’t include that one over a cormorant but now glad I gave it a slot. 😀
Wow! Really impressive shots! Thanks so much for sharing!
anne
Well I truly apreciate you looking and commenting!
Great shots Phil, my favorite?, the Kingfischer.
Wow! Another vote for the kingfisher! That one juuuust barely got included in this group. Now really glad I did.
Thanks!
These shots didn’t make the daily selections? TGFMFS (Thank Goodness for Monthly Flight Shots!) 🙂
Yes, these had no other home until today’s post. Glad you liked them! 😀
Clear & great shots!! 🙂 The birds are beautiful
Thank you so much for looking and commenting! I’m happy you like the birds! 🙂
Looks like I stumbled across a pretty spectacular wildlife blog! Awesome stuff!
Well I really appreciate your visit and kind words! Thanks a bunch!
Great serie of photos, – lovely work!
Thank you Hans, I’m glad you liked the BIF shots!
WOW ! The lighting and movement freeze is amazing. Especially love the tri-color heron. These are fabulous photos Phil!
I’m so happy you enjoyed viewing these bird photos Bella, and also nice to know you like the tri! It’s a fave of mine too. 🙂
I truly tried, but I can’t pick a favorite! They are all simply too lovely. Now…… maybe if you had included that flying ‘gator? 😉
Thanks a million for the very kind words Gunta! I tried to work a gator in here somehow. I need to work out a deal with one of them where maybe I can talk it into taking a short leap off the jetty so I can get an in-flight shot. 😉
Good luck with that, but the image in my mind was worth a hearty laugh!
Glad you got a laugh out of it, I’m still trying to negotiate with an alligator’s agent to work out the details of this wacky flight shot project. 😕 😀
Still amazes me to see the enormous variety of birds you manage to get in front o the camera as where I only get to see maybee two or three, and they don’t sit still !
Well done 😀
Thank you for viewing these BIF photos and I’m very happy you liked them! I do see a variety which can change with the seasons. I’m waiting now for some pelicans to start hitting the marsh area as opposed to the ocean where I normally see them. Bad news is alligator season is winding down… 😦
“I believe I can fly…” Love it!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the flights!
Wunderschöne Aufnahmen.
Danke, ich bin glücklich euch gefallen die Fotos.
Awesome flight shots! I especially like the eagle.
Thanks much! I’m happy you like the flights and the eagle!
I like the great blue heron 🙂 we have them a lot in germany in the area I come from. But they don’t really let you come too close 😉
Thank you for checking out these flight shots and good to know you like the GBH! I thought nobody liked him. 😦 😉
I think only people with fish ponds don’t like them 😉
Ha! That’s exactly right! We have friends with a little stocked pond in their backyard and a blue heron treats it like a buffet restaurant. Those fish they have to buy to stock the pond are expensive too. 😯 They have tried throwing firecrackers at the heron in hopes of scaring it away but it doesn’t care. 😀
Just perfect 😀 I think I like the great blue heron shot the best 🙂
Oh cool thanks Paula! Another vote for the GBH! 😀
Excellent shots, Phil. These are all brilliant.
Hey thanks Gracie! So glad you liked the BIF pics!
Nice collection cool wood stork. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a wood stork in person. :+)
Thanks very much for checking out these flight shots and I’m glad you liked them. It’s also nice to get a vote for Woody! The wood storks are not much to look at up close but they are quite elegant flyers.
Fantastic set, Phil! Wow. You do amazing work and it’s a joy to come to your blog.
Well I truly appreciate your visit and your very kind comments Karen!
Wow! Amazing shots Phil.
Glad you like them!
Love your Belted Kingfisher photo. Great shot. That bird is my photography nemesis.
You and me both about the kingfisher. I say this with all due respect and admiration but I hate those little rats with wings! 😉 Yes they drive me crazy. I have yet to get a photo that I can finally relax and say now I have a really good kingfisher shot. Oh well, maybe next time. 🙂
Indeed! My friends in Sanibel and I refer to them as (rhymes with gas)-birds! Again with all due respect.
