White Pelicans
This morning we were surprised to see a couple of white pelicans arrive in the marsh pond. These pelicans are not super rare in our area but unlike the brown pelicans which we see frequently, the white pelicans are rather uncommon so it was a treat to see them. They seemed to hang around with the cormorants mostly, which did not turn out so good for me because the cormorants would leave whenever I got near them and the pelicans would follow soon after.
After a brief visit they left for parts unknown, but they were fun and interesting to see!

One of my favourite birds Phil. I got such a thrill when I saw them in the wild for the first time in Florida when I visited, and it’s a treat to see thrm here. Fabulous shots.
Thanks a million! I’m glad you liked these pelican pics!
I do not see them often so it’s a real treat for me.
Great pics. I love the look of the pelican on the third. 🙂
Thanks for checking these out!
What beautiful Birds they are! I also see them on rare occasions and am always thrilled when I do. Very good photos!
Thank you Molly, I’m happy like the pelican, they are a real change from the browns that are so frequently seen in our area.
Una breve visita che però sei riuscito a catturare con scatti fantastici, bravissimo come sempre!!!
Ciao, buon fine settimana
Pat
Sì, è stata una visita breve, ma sono stato molto felice di vederli.
Spero che il vostro week-end è meraviglioso
Cheers
Phil
Fabulous pics, Phil. They’re such huge birds, and it really amazes me how they manage to get up there and glide along, quite gracefully.
Thanks Sylvia, and yes they are large birds and often act less then graceful. When fishing they hit the water like someone just tossed it out of a moving truck.
🙂
Beautiful. The white pelican is the one we see around here and a long standing favourite.
Thanks! It’s interesting where these birds are normally seen. For the longest time I had the impression they were sort of a tropical bird but not so.
I have yet to spot a white one here. Thanks for the fantastic shots (as usual)!
We were sure happy to see these today. Very glad you liked these pics!
I love how you show the contrast of the white pelican surrounded by the cormorants. Such wonderful contrast. Heard that there are some white pelicans on the eastern shore of Maryland. Pretty special I think.
Thanks very much Emily, I’m glad you liked the WP pics! They are special for us here so I was happy to see them!
The pelican looks like he’s smiling in those top two shots!
Yes he does, I guess he was having a good day. 🙂 Thanks for looking!
Those are some handsome pelicans, Phil. Beautiful catch as always.
They are rather nice looking aren’t they Gracie? 🙂 Thanks!
beautiful morning!!
have nice weekend, Phil! 🙂

Outstanding as always!
So great to see you here Jen! Thanks very much for checking out these pics!
Wonderful photo’s Phil.
Thanks very much Jan.
Great captures! My mother loves pelicans – she has named her house (as some people on the coast are inclined to do) Pelican’s Perch. I have yet to capture a close up for her that I find satisfactory, but I’ll never give up!
People living along the coastal area here often name their houses as well, and I know a pelican themed name is popular. 🙂
You keep at it with the pelican photos, I’m sure you will get some excellent pics.
Thanks for looking!
I think they are scared of me… 🙂 Need a different lens for sure!
Maybe you just need to talk nice to them. I try that all the time. Rarely works but gives you something to do. 😉 😀
Ha, ha! I’ll have to give it a try! 🙂
