Quiet Day
I stopped by the salt marsh only briefly yesterday afternoon. It was cold and windy and most of the birds were taking it easy, possibly conserving energy.
The incoming tide did not seem to be bringing many fish in with it anyway, so as a result I saw many birds who appeared to be in a resting mode rather then actively fishing.
I thought the photos with a great egret and a snowy, and then a great blue heron with a snowy, were interesting as they show the size differences between these birds.
It is supposed to warm up here for the coming weekend so I’m sure the action will pick up as the temps rise.

The size difference is interesting. They were probably all recovering after watching you get all excited about the eagle!
What is funny is that I can see a group of some of the smaller waders like the snowys and ibis (and this certainly applies to the ducks) all feeding and going about their business when suddenly they all scatter in fifty different directions at once. I look up and sure enough, there’s an eagle. I think the eagles do this just for laughs and to be purposely annoying because they can.
There’s always one in every crowd!
So peacefully pretty! That kind of soft quiet always brings out the poet in me… Not sure why, but it does.
Their lazy behavior yesterday has put me in a lazy mood today. I have tons more action stuff I could post but just went with this for today.
Thanks for checking these out.
I try to never miss. I enjoy your work!
I really appreciate that, it’s nice to hear. 🙂
Very nice. I put you on my blogroll as a fovourite photographer, it’s always a treat to see your work, Phil.
Have a great weekend.
Dina
Glad you liked these Dina and I appreciate your continued interest in my photos. 🙂
Enjoy your weekend!
Hello Phil,
I love your bird pics ♥
Wish you a wonderful weekend
moni
Thank you very much for your visit moni and your kind words!
Hope you enjoy your weekend!
I love the light in these Phil. I really hadn’t realised just how big the great blue heron is compared to the other birds.
Thanks much I’m glad you enjoyed these.
Yes the GBH is a good size bird. I have seen them stand up to bald eagles. They are actually bigger then an eagle but the eagle usually still wins any battle over fish ownership.
I like the light in these images, Phil.
Thank Mike, the sun was going in and out, I was trying to grab a couple while that early evening light was hitting them.
Very nice photo’s Phil, the difference in size of the great blue and the snowy is huge.
Thanks Jan, and yes I am often surprised myself when I see them in a photo together.
Però che grande differenza, non avrei mai immaginato fosse così tanta 🙂
Le foto sono splendide!!!!
Ciao, Pat
Hi Pat
C’è una grande differenza di dimensioni. Sono felice che ti piace le foto 🙂
Wonderful shots, Phil. I can see there isn’t much action today 😉
Thanks Gracie, well there was some action but I got into a lazy mood and went with lazy photos. 😀
Really like the intense gaze of the bird in the first shot. Is that a Great Egret?
Thanks much David. The first one is a great blue heron, the second shot is a great egret with a snowy egret, and the bottom shot is again a GBH with a snowy.
That first photo is really stunning, Phil. Interesting to compare the sizes. It’s easy to see why some of them are called ‘Great’.
Thanks Sylvia I’m glad you enjoyed these.
Some of them I just refer to as “pretty good” egrets or herons. 😉 😀
Beautiful photos, as usual! Your ‘slow’ days are better than most people’s good day!
Thanks a bunch Molly, glad you enjoyed these pics!
The reflections are so beautiful in these Phil. it is true, there are sometimes when rest is in order.
Thank you Emily, I’m happy you enjoyed these!
Phil, the bird in your top shot reminds me of Barney Fife! Great shootin’ as always!
Ha ha Barney Fife! That’s hysterical! I like it. 😀
Como siempre una belleza de imágenes, pero la primera me ha encantado, el reflejo la hace genial, besos
Estoy tan feliz te gustan estas fotos y las reflexiones 🙂
Almost didn’t recognize the GBH in the first shot all hunkered down. Great reflection, though!
Thanks much for checking these out Gunta!
Like frozen time ~ time to watch. The differences between the species are worth to be shown, Thank you Phil,
I’m glad you liked seeing these birds and how the different species look when near each other. Thanks
