Fishing In The Marsh…Part Two
Here is the continuation of the bald eagle’s afternoon adventure in the salt marsh.
As you saw in part one, the eagle left it’s perch after spotting a fish down in the marsh, and flew back toward the tree with it’s catch. We now pick up with what happened next. The eagle took it’s rather modest meal to a branch in the pine tree where it proceeded to dine on the tasty snack. The head of the fish seemed to be particularly appealing as you can see in pic 3 the head has been removed, and in pic 4 it’s down the hatch. Of course the well mannered eagle then needs to clean various scraps of fish parts of it’s beak and it does this by rubbing it across the handy tree branch. With the clean up complete, the eagle now gives me a somewhat disturbing look, as if it did not appreciate my staring at it while it was eating. I suppose if you think about it, I was a bit rude, and was this why our friend decided to leave the tree?! Well possibly, but it did not fly away and leave the area completely, it did another swoop over the marsh and well…what happened after that is a post for another day…

Wow, he really enjoyed his lunch, by the looks of things. Your pics are fabulous, and not as gruesome as I was expecting them to be. I’ve seen people with far worse table manners. 😀
Yes Sylvia he sure did enjoy his light lunch!
You should have seen me eating chicken wings earlier. I had to scrape my beak against the edge of the table when I was done. 😀
Bwahahaha So glad I wasn’t around to witness this amazing sight. 🙂
Oh it was plenty amazing alright! 😀
These are incredible Phil. I love the 6th image where the eagle is looking straight at the camera.
Thanks very much Edith, I’m glad you enjoyed them.
Fabulous shots – what a handsome fellow!
Thanks! And yes quite the attractive gentleman! 🙂
These are so good.. I really like the pine cones on the tree- just adds a lot to make these photos so pretty. Aslo the eagle with its wings extended in flight made the sequence of pics even better.
Thank you, I’m really happy you liked these eagle photos and enjoyed the pine tree setting!
So nice to see different types of action shots. I usually think eagles have impressive wingspans but that mouth is fairly impressive as well. You’ll never out stare an eagle.
Yeah I wouldn’t want to have a very angry eagle come swooping down at me with either those sky hooks or it’s mouth at the ready. 😯 I don’t even try to outstare it. I basically just look away.
Phil you are definitely a tease!
What will I have for tomorrow?
More eagles?
GBH flight?
Egret with a big fish?
Alligator in the swamp?
Humm…time will tell 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous shots of a magnificent bird!
Thanks much for your very kind comments!
Oh wow! what stunning pictures!
I’m happy you liked ’em! 🙂
Eagle gobbles down the fish, cleans his beak, looks you right in the eye and says, “Tiger blood, baby! My next act is dedicated to Slyvia, and to your cat”.
Oh he gave me a look alright! 😯
I’m not letting the cat anywhere near that eagle. Although she is 16lbs. so it probably would not be able to carry off Miss Kitty. 😛
Great sequence again Phil, well captured and presented.
Thanks a million, I’m happy you liked these eagle pics!
As usual, great shots Phil.
Thanks much Jan, I am very glad you liked the photos!
Lovely shots and you are fortunate to have blue skies as a backdrop. They set off the eagles colours wonderfully.
Thanks. The sun was in and out during this whole event which not only made the camera settings a challenge but provided different looks as the action unfolded.
Another cliff-hanger…..
I might drag this out a little longer and tomorrow post an alligator I saw in the swamp this morning. 🙂 😛
Oh the suspense!!! 😯
Oh there is plenty of suspense alright!
Dire che sono spettacolari è troppo poco, sono superbe, fantastiche e ancora di più 🙂
Ciao, Pat
Grazie mille. Sei molto gentile 🙂
Just getting caught up with you, Phil, and WOW! Loving all the eagle images. They’re fabulous. 🙂
THanks a million Robin, glad you like ’em!
Very good shots!!
Thanks very much Terry! I appreciate you checking in and commenting!
Great stuff Phil! Beautiful shots!
Thanks much for the kind words Rick!
Clearly he was totally annoyed that you were disturbing dinner time. Off to find a quieter place I’d imagine. Fantastic how perfectly you have captured this eagle in his every day life.
Thanks for checking these out Emily!
He did not go to a quieter place though, he flew back over the marsh and stole a fish from a GBH! 😯 😀
These are wonderful photos! And the colors are amazing. I really like that glare he is giving you.
Thanks very much Molly I appreciate your kind comments!
Amazing, Phil! Can’t believe I am watching the action of the eagle eating the fish … He wanted you to catch his handsome fly and you did (the last one)!
I’m so happy you enjoyed these eagle photos Amy!
He did give me a bit of a fly by opportunity didn’t he?! 🙂
Beautiful shots… 🙂
Thank you so much!
Great pics. Congratulations. The sixth pic ist my favorite.
Thank you! I am glad you liked these eagle photos!
¡Magnífico reportaje!!, en la quinta te descubrió ¿no?
Muchas gracias yo soy feliz te gustan estas fotos.
Si El águila me vio mirando 🙂
Incredible. Just fabulous. He’s definitely becomming my favourite character. 🙂
Thanks very much Adrian, glad you like the active eagle in the marsh.
So you think you like him better then the alligators? 😀
It’s a tough one. I love the gators, I love all the characters in the daily soap opera in truth, from the guys down in the salt marsh and oyster beds to the swamp dwellers. This eagle though, really is a magnificent bird. It’s been such a pleasure looking at your pictures of him these last few days.
Well I truly appreciate your interest and support and all your very kind comments Adrian!
I have never seen such spectacular eagle shots before 🙂 It looks as if fish is growing on trees for him.
Thank you Paula! I bet the eagle wishes there were fish in the trees. 🙂
🙂
Great shots Phil. How close were you to the eagle? The images are incredible, super sharp. Fantastic.
Thanks a lot David, I appreciate you checking out the eagle pics and commenting.
It was in that pine tree at the nearby edge of where I was standing. Not super close but other times the eagles are in trees at the far edge of the marsh where photos are not possible so I’ll take this. 🙂
Wow Phil, these are amazing shots! Love how you captured the eagle’s every move.
Thanks very much Gracie!
Fantastique !
Merci Jean-Paul!

C’est avec plaisir, bonne journée Phil !
Nice set of photos!!!
Fantastic!!!
Thanks Pedro I appreciate it!
Wow, you really caught all of the action. Love that one of him looking right at you. It’s nice to see them in pine trees. Most of ours are on cell towers.
Thanks very much for checking these out and I appreciate your kind comments.
I’m happy as well to find them in the pines, it provides a nice natural setting.
utterly sublime – some of the shots you get are frightening
Thank you much Scott! I truly appreciate you looking and your kind comments!
