February Flights
In keeping with the tradition I started many months back…I am once again posting a collection of flight photos for the month. None of these flight shots which were all taken in February have been previously posted, and this is the first time any of them have seen the light of day.

Thank you Lucy, and yes they sure are wonderful flyers. 🙂
Fantastic shots, Phil.
Thanks I appreciate that.
I’ll just join the chorus… awesome!!! 😀
I greatly appreciate your kind words Gunta!
So young Ibis are not white, I learned something.
Yes, the juvies are mostly brown as they slowy transition to all white adults.
This is the opposite of the little blue heron who is all white as a juvenile and turns to a blue and maroon adult.
Thank you, now I will know when in areas where these birds are feeding.
Glad you enjoy the bird info!
Very nice……… love the blue heron………..
Thanks very much Sally, glad you like the GBH!
i love a good flight photo as i find it very dificult to get any good ones with my camera
I appreciate your kind words and glad you like these!
These are so amazing Phil. How you manage to get such fantastic BIF shots always amazes me. BTW, been better about using the Back Focus button and I’m getting more keepers. Next is to insist that I use a tripod. So far, I’ve been handholding that 500mm. It’s easier to bounce around. 🙂
Thanks a million Emily, I’m so happy you like these flights!
I have a tripod but I mostly just use it as a place to hold the camera or for slow shutter speed, stationary subjects.
I hand hold all flight as I like to pan and follow the birds. This is one reason I use the 300 4 with a 1.4 making it a 420.
It is light, fast, and very maneuverable. Combined with the super fast focus of the 7D, I’ve been very happy with that combo. 🙂
I can almost feel their joy of flying from you awesome photos… 🙂
Thanks very much Amy, I greatly appreciate that!
I agree with Amy. these are really joyous flight pics. That old saying, “Free as a bird” comes to mind. Well done, Phil. 🙂
Thank you so much for your very kind comments Sylvia I appreciate it.
Not that you asked but I’ll pick the Great Egret as my favourite.
Ah cool, a vote for the egret. Excellent!
A superb collection of my favourite type of shot! Fabulous Phil! 🙂
I’m very happy you enjoy these flight shots Adrian!
I always look forward to the end of the month so I can see your amazing photos of birds in flight. It’s hard enough to capture one such photo, but month after month you astound us with the variety of birds and the quality of your images. It is both impressive and inspiring.
Thank you so much Mike, I greatly apreciate your very kind comments and I’m really happy you enjoy the flight photos!
What brilliant pictures, Phil! We only see the grey herons here in our part of the UK – the blue and tricoloured herons are beautiful!
Thanks a bunch Maggie! I’m really glad you enjoy seeing the different birds!
