February Flights

In keeping with the tradition I started many months back…I am once again posting a collection of flight photos for the month. None of these flight shots which were all taken in February have been previously posted, and this is the first time any of them have seen the light of day.

  Yes, the juvies are mostly brown as they slowy transition to all white adults.
  This is the opposite of the little blue heron who is all white as a juvenile and turns to a blue and maroon adult.

These are so amazing Phil. How you manage to get such fantastic BIF shots always amazes me. BTW, been better about using the Back Focus button and I’m getting more keepers. Next is to insist that I use a tripod. So far, I’ve been handholding that 500mm. It’s easier to bounce around. 🙂

  I have a tripod but I mostly just use it as a place to hold the camera or for slow shutter speed, stationary subjects.
  I hand hold all flight as I like to pan and follow the birds. This is one reason I use the 300 4 with a 1.4 making it a 420.
  It is light, fast, and very maneuverable. Combined with the super fast focus of the 7D, I’ve been very happy with that combo. 🙂
