Lady Of The Lake
Well actually she is the lady of the ‘pond’. Yesterday morning I was checking out the marsh pond when I saw this female Red-breasted Merganser come floating into view. Mergansers are diving ducks that would normally be seen here in winter, and we would be more likely to see the Hooded Merganser then this Red-breasted. So I was doubly and delightfully surprised to see this lady gliding along in the pond. Notice the dark eyeliner around her eyes, she appears quite fashionably made up!

What a beauty! That last shot is (that way overused word!) awesome!

Catching up with you and the birds is always so enchanting – especially when it’s a bossy red head! Super set of pictures (as usual). I thought of you the other day when I was trying to capture the birds in Wilpattu – oh to have your skill 🙂

She is a real temperamental red head for sure!
Glad you enjoyed the bird photos and keep at it, I’m sure you will get terrific photos in Wilpattu!

The critters just don’t know where they are suppose to be this year, poor things. Guess that is good for us.

It is a confusing time right now for sure. I don’t normally see spoonbills and ducks in March. And the alligators don’t know what the heck is going on.

Well it has been particularly windy lately, that can’t be good for a lady’s hair style. 😀

so lovely.. i like the first shot, so regal as if it owned the lake/pond.

She sort of does own the pond in her own way. Even the many cormorants out there don’t bother her. 🙂

Thanks Andrew, so glad you enjoyed these pics! That reflection really strung out due to the angle and water condition. I don’t believe her head even made it all the way. 🙂

Well that’s for sure Maggie! I definitely should not be seeing pink spoonbills and ducks in March, and the alligators are seriously confused. We should be laying around at the beach now and instead we had frost on the car this morning. Crazy.

This Lady of the Lake rocks! She reminds me of the singer, Pink with her eyeliner and mohawk. Killer pics, once again Phil!

Oh yeah she rocks alright! Hey Pink is a good comparison! I was originally thinking of Alice Glass from Crystal Castles but she would be more likely to have blue or purple hair. 😀
