Crab Salad
Yesterday evening I saw this alligator come up with a mouth full of pond weeds along with a tasty blue crab. I could hear the shell crunch as the gator chomped down on it’s evening meal. The alligator didn’t seem to mind all the greens, especially since there was no extra charge…a salad is included with all crab dinners currently being served in the marsh pond!

I was so excited when I read the title of your post, Phil. I thought you were going to share a super new recipe for crab salad. That alligator is so good to eat all his greens. 🙂 Great photos as always.

Nice, I can see the crab legs hanging out his mouth. I guess they don’t spit out the greens do they?

I don’t think they usually eat all the green stuff, they sort of chomp and try to separate out the crab from the weeds as best they can I guess. But if they do swallow some weeds I’m sure it won’t kill them. 🙂

Well, I love crab salad also, but I do remove the shells. They are a bit too hard and crunchy for me.
Great shots!

There is nothing going to waste with these boys! They eat the shell, the weeds, the mud, whatever they come up with, it all goes down the hatch!
Thanks!

Thanks a bunch! Yes I did hear the crunch and knew before I saw it that the gator had a crab rather then a fish.
