I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.
This alligator in the marsh at sunset was the epitome of patience as he floated motionless… watching and waiting. But for what? Or for whom? He outwaited me so we will never know for sure…
Goddamnit Phil, every time I think I’ve taken a shot that I really love and think I could put on my wall, I come here and you’ve taken the kind of stunning photo that makes me spit my wine out in awe! 😀 The light and the composition on this are amazing. So very beautiful.
Such a great shot Phil. Gorgeous light! 🙂
Thanks very much Adrian and yes that evening sunset lighting can really warm up a scene.
The incredible capacity of nothingness!
Good description! You still like my ggg (gator grunge green) text? 🙂
I do – grunge green is a great description
I’m sticking with it for now thanks!
Nice to see more of him underneath the surface. Beautiful late light, Phil.
Thanks Steve, I often try to get out there at the point of the evening when the warm sunset light hits the marsh.
Wow, this head looks unearthly, Phil. Great capture. 🙂
Thank you Sylvia, so glad you liked this contemplative alligator. 🙂
I’m sure that he had something on his agenda. Great shot!
Oh I’m sure he had a plan, he just wasn’t letting me in on it. Thanks Molly!

Next time you’ll have more patience than he had! 😛
I try, but sometimes they wear me out. 🙂
Impressive… Pics without any motion are rare. Congrats to this shot.
I appreciate that thank you!
The face of contentment?!? Nice image.
He seemed pretty content. Thanks Deb!
Then again perhaps he was just zoned out… a Zen moment? 😉
That could be it! It’s happened to me I think. 🙂
What a great shot Phil.
Thank you so much Jan.
That time of the day is my favorite.. the warming light from the sunset makes everything look great. Nice shot!
Yes my favorite time too! Thanks for looking!
Golden shot, perfect light, what a beauty!
Awesome Phil!
Thanks Rick glad you like it!
totally different from your normal cheeky gater posts – surreal
I think he and I were in a similar mood.
When they bide their time and are patient like that…it bodes well for them, but not so much for whomever is unlucky enough to fall into their path.
That’s exactly right. Many a day I have waited and then found out what the alligator had in mind the whole time.
How close are you? Just wondering, because I would seriously shit my pants, haha xd Your shots are amazing!
Oh it was pretty much right in front of me but these guys could not care less about me being there, not much to worry about. 🙂
Thanks for looking!
Very impressive shot.
Thanks much David, glad you liked it!
