Bath Time For Spoonie

Yesterday afternoon we saw this spoonbill in the marsh pond who decided it was the perfect time to take a nice bath. It splashed around in the water for a while then proceeded to dry off it’s wings and preen it’s feathers. I think he cleaned up quite nicely! 🙂

    • You can join the club because I feel the same way, whenever the spoonbills are around they become my favorite bird along with the GBH. In fact yesterday there was a GBH fishing in the salt marsh along with some spoonies, and I concentrated on the spoonbills.

  1. The very first in this series? A ballroom dancer with one of those over-the-top feathered costumes! Is it just me, or does this particular spoonie appear more … gentle … in disposition than Mr. Macho spoonie? The eyes are soft here. Beautiful captures, and colors.

    • Well this is a younger bird then our resident crank but it’s true the juveniles tend to look a bit…fluffier. 🙂
However… here’s a new flash for you! Mr. Grumpy was also out yesterday and seemed to get along well with five other spoonbills! A first! Photos of that to follow…

  2. Love all the shots especially the bathing with the water droplets frozen in time around Mr. Spoonie. The pink is gorgeous. I wonder if this is the same “show off” spoonie from the other day?

    • Thank you Pat I’m glad you like these photos! This is a younger bird and not our local cranky show off. I saw him again yesterday though and plan to head over later today to see if he is still around.
