I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.
I have seen some of these guys especially the youngsters like this one just lay around where you can walk right up to them and practically pet one. There was one that was always trying to get into people’s cars. I don’t think that one wanted to work for a living, he wanted to live the pampered life of a house cat. 🙂
The morning light can often be very pleasant out there near the beach. The brown pelicans are nice flyers but when fishing, they hit the water like they were just tossed from a moving vehicle. 🙂
Wonderful capture!
Thanks very much glad you liked seeing the youngster!
Beautiful capture, Phil—-Thanks!!
Thanks for checking it out and glad you liked it!
Wow — now that is some gorgeous light, and a mighty fine action shot!
The light is nice first thing in the morning and the birds are often active then which is nice!
You make the birds more beautiful. I bet this guy would just love his photo if he could see it.
I’m glad you enjoy the various bird photos. Maybe his parents would like a copy to send to the grandparents. 🙂
Superb flight shot, Phil!
Hey thanks Gareth I appreciate you checking it out and glad you liked it!
Beautiful shot – even the splash left behind.
These guys always find some way to make a splash, whether it’s leaving or arriving. Glad you enjoyed this one!
love it!!! beautiful light, beautiful bird..
Thanks much for the kind words!
Really great shot of this lovely Browny.
The juvies are not as colorful as the adults but they still have their own appeal. Thanks Jan.
Excellent detail. Great shot!
I appreciate that, thank you!
You are so lucky with your glorious early morning and sunset light there, Phil! You capture it so beautifully!
We do have some nice light both early and then late, which is also the times the birds are most active. So sometimes it all works out. Thanks Maggie!
This is such a gorgeous photo, Phil. I almost feel I can reach out and stroke those lovely golden feathers, but best not, I suppose. 🙂

😆 How wonderful it must be to get so close.
I just don’t need him in my car, they can make a bit of a mess. 🙂
Beautiful picture, beautiful details, I love pelicans!
Pelicans are often fun to watch and photograph. Glad you enjoyed this photo!
He looks bronzed. it is the light, which is beautiful. He also looks graceful for a bird that probably isn’t always so!
