Early Evening Fishing In The Marsh
Last week I was watching this tricolored heron fishing in the marsh. Tricolors are patient and determined hunters. They will stalk an area for a long time until finally shooting out that long neck to grab a fish.
Sometimes all that work only gets the heron a tiny snack, but for them a large part of it seems to be the thrill of the hunt!
Fabulous sequence Phil!
Thanks a bunch! Glad you liked the Tri!
Makes our blue look bland!
Spettacolare serie di scatti. Complimenti Phil.
Ciao, Pat
Sono felice che ti piace le foto Pat!
Great sequence! Such a long stretch for that tiny fish, but the heron acts happy about it.
They do have long necks and in that third photo it looks like he might have two fish and if so I guess he lost one. 🙂
Wonderful capture !
Thanks very much for looking!
Yep. There is no size limit and no catch and release for waders. 🙂 Bunch of nice catches for you, though.
Thanks Steve, when I was looking at that third photo later it looks like he might have two fish and if so I guess he lost one.
Beautiful reflections! Love that neck action they do.
Between that long sharp pointy bill and that neck stretch they sure have some amazing reach.
The reflections are beyond amazing in this series. Great job, Phil!
I’m really happy you liked these, they sure are fun birds to watch. Plus this guy never shut up.
Terrific series! It always seems like such a “show” – and then they pop up with a teeny little fish! 🙂
I know! It’s so dramatic and then they have a tiny fish. At least you could (sorta) see this fish. Sometimes they swallow something and I can’t even see what it was because it was so small.
Fantastic series!
I’m glad you liked these, they are fun birds. 🙂
Wow, that first picture is so interesting and strange! And the tiny size of the fish is pretty comical.
Oh that tiny fish is very comical! And in that third photo it looks like he might have two fish and if so I guess he lost one.
Such a tiny morsel! Stunning reflections, and you really caught the action, Phil. 🙂
Thanks a bunch Sylvia! Another funny thing is that in that third photo it looks like he might have two fish and if so I guess he lost one. He can’t afford to lose too many of the little ones. 🙂
Now if I was patient like that heron and you, then I could get photos like amazing photos like this! That first one is my favourite.
Thanks for the comments I like that first one the best too. Well knocking back the tiny fish at the end was funny though. Also, I noticed later that in the third photo it looks like he might have two fish and if so I guess he lost one.
These are fantastic pictures of this beautiful heron, Phil! The reflections are magic!
I’m so happy liked seeing our very active and vocal Tri Maggie! This guy never shut up he was yacking the entire time. 🙂
Great caputre of the hunting sequence! Love that he likes that tasty little morsel!
He was a patient and skilled hunter and always lots of fun to watch too! He was a big mouth too, he never stopped yacking the entire time and chased other birds away.
Wow, that first image of the heron is incredible ! Super job Phil!
Oh wow, thanks very much I appreciate that and glad you liked seeing the long necked Tri!
Superb photos, Phil! The colors, the reflections, the ripples in the water. Just superb, even if it isn’t our very favoritest of them all heron, and you know who I mean!
Excellent action shots, Phil! Nice job on the water droplets in the strike scene
