Early Evening Fishing In The Marsh
Last week I was watching this tricolored heron fishing in the marsh. Tricolors are patient and determined hunters. They will stalk an area for a long time until finally shooting out that long neck to grab a fish.
Sometimes all that work only gets the heron a tiny snack, but for them a large part of it seems to be the thrill of the hunt!

Great sequence! Such a long stretch for that tiny fish, but the heron acts happy about it.
They do have long necks and in that third photo it looks like he might have two fish and if so I guess he lost one. 🙂

I know! It’s so dramatic and then they have a tiny fish. At least you could (sorta) see this fish. Sometimes they swallow something and I can’t even see what it was because it was so small.

He was a patient and skilled hunter and always lots of fun to watch too! He was a big mouth too, he never stopped yacking the entire time and chased other birds away.
