I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.
Well the lighting at that time of day combined with the bird flying in the right spot can often produce a nice smooth background. Thanks for looking Vicky!
Hi Phil,
I haven’t looked at your blog in quite a while and I’m just playing a little catchup. ;o) I really love this set. I believe the great blue herons are my favorites in the marsh. As always, thanks for sharing your wonderful photos, my friend.
Take care,
Mick
Super captures, especially the first.
Thanks and I liked that first one a lot too. I was even going to only post that one but figured I would toss in the next two as well. 🙂
Wonderful effect of the setting sunlight~!
The late afternoon, early evening light hits the salt marsh area just right at those times. Nice to be out there then.
Wow! The lighting and background color is fantastic! Nice flight capture too!
Hey thanks LSD! I liked the lighting here too and was glad big blue stayed low allowing me to get him against that background.
Reblogged this on patriciaddrury.
I appreciate the reblog, thanks. 🙂
Stunning captures. it really popped out at me in my reader. 😀
Thanks so much and I noticed it looked better depending on what type screen I used to view it.
Looks nice on the Samsung Tab S. 🙂
This GBH has some great Kung Fu! He’s beautiful! 🙂
That big guy knows what he’s doing out there for sure!
Beautiful captures.
Thanks a bunch glad you liked seeing the GBH.
That first image is really unique. He is hovering like those airplanes on aircraft carriers that go up and then the engines rotate and they fly away.
Yeah the Osprey! Cool aircraft, and amazing birds too! 🙂
He’s so graceful. Great captures again, Phil. 🙂
I’m very happy you enjoyed seeing the big guy Sylvia. 🙂
That’s a gorgeous capture.
Thanks, the light is nice there at that time of day so it’s good to have some bird cooperate and be around then.
Once more you have outdone yourself.
I’m glad you liked these Gunta!
The light is glorious and you have captured the grace and elegance of this beautiful bird perfectly, as usual!
Well I just grab the photos, the bird does all the work!
Nice bokeh on all of your photos. Please Teach us how to do that!

Beautiful capture….and once again reminds me of a painting!!!
Thanks so much Linda!

Hey thanks Mick, glad you liked seeing big blue! They are probably my favorite bird out there. Well, until the spoonies show up. 🙂
