Well At Least He Got One!
Early yesterday morning we had a Least Bittern fishing in the swamp. This variety of bittern is fairly rare for our area and is generally a very secretive bird so we were thrilled to see this colorful, active guy in action.
Normally we might see the American Bittern which are cool birds but it was a real treat seeing the Least!
What a lovely bird! The colours are so beautiful and the way you have caught them in the early sunlight is gorgeous! Yet another bird to add to the all the ones I have seen for the first time, thanks to you, Phil!
It’s treat for us as well, seeing this beautiful bird so close! 🙂
Hello, Phil! You always tell a good story. But this time, you missed the important shot. I would have liked to see how the bird caught the fish.
Hi Noel, thanks very much for checking these photos. I think the bittern might have been faster than me on this one but if you check out this recent egret post you might see what the strike looks like at point of impact. 🙂

awesome photos!
I think I saw the same bird on the spillway where Mallard pond dumps into Mullet pond.
Congratulatiion on this capture. Always exciting to see something different. Thanks for sharing.
Even birds get the hair raised on their backs! lol Love the lighting through that shot and those that followed, great action series!
You can see him focus on his prey on the first picture.
