Happy 2019!
Well…I can’t believe another year has passed and most excitingly, in wildlife world, we still have some Roseate Spoonbills hanging around the marsh.
It’s been 10 years since the spoonies have regularly started visiting the area, and in all that time they have never stayed later than a day or two into December, and now we have a surprising New Year’s Day appearance!
Now we are wondering if some will think about staying through the winter rather heading south as they normally have in the past.
In any case, we are thrilled they seem to be happy with their January home at least for now.
Also had to include one of the ‘regulars’ a great blue heron, that remains a constant source of beauty and amusement.
Happy New Year everyone!
Frohes neues Jahr πππ
Frohes neues Jahr! π
Happy New Year to you too. Love your photos and especially ones of the Spoonbills. I’m glad they have stayed this long. Jacqui and I have missed seeing your photos so it was a pleasant surprise to get your email. Hopefully we will run into you out on the Causeway. I’m still in NC but visit Huntington Beach State Park whenever I can get to SC. Have a great Year, Phill. And please keep sending your photos when you can. Becky

Hi Becky! Thanks much for checking out the spoonies and appreciate your reply. As of today we still have three that have been coming and going, mostly in the mornings. We went over earlier looking for alligators and there were a few sleeping in the swamp off the straight road. Hope to see yβall soon.
Pretty in pink!
Gotta love pink for New Year! π

Wonderful to see your post, Phil! A Happy New Year to you and Alyce! Have the spoonbills stayed because the weather is milder? You deserve it after the hurricane. Love the beautiful blue heron – such a favourite!
Hi Maggie, thanks very much for your wonderful comments and we are all surprised to still have three spoonies staying in the area in January, itβs a new record. Yes the weather has been milder and our biggest hope is that eventually some decide to stay and breed here.
Itβs been an incredibly rough Summer for me, Iβll have to write you soon. Things a bit better now. π
