October Flights
Continuing in the tradition of showing various flight shots at the end of the month that haven’t been previously posted…here are some of October’s flight shots!

These are just fantastic Phil. The light you have captured for the tricoloured heron is complimenting the bird beautifully. I’d happily hang these on my wall. 🙂

Stunning shots, Phil . . . my father has an affinity for all birds, namely osprey. Though not much of a blogger, not at all actually, still, I will have to send him this link. I think he would enjoy your work immensely. I have as well.

Dear Phil, how beautiful flights you captured. I know this is not easy photography and also should be very patience…A few weeks ago I noticed something flying over the fields. It seemed to me big and I thought that it should be a stork. But my husband didn’t think like that because all stork have left our land. Anyway it was not an easy photograph especially for me but I tried to take and make zoom. When we saw the picture we understood that it was a stork and stayed here, what happened we don’t know. But I always remember you and your amazing photographs, how I wished to take a better picture of this poor stork. Thank you dear Phil. Fascinated me again your shots. And also the title too 🙂 I would like to see November Flights too now… Love, nia

Well not planned, because things like this generally happen too quickly to plan, but not just dumb luck either. I have to use my experience from watching bird behavior to anticipate what they may do, and then position myself properly regarding the light and then have my camera all set for what I think will likely happen.
So I guess a little more goes into it then most people think. 🙂

I have seen them quickly lunge up out of the water and get some air, but not all the way out, that tail generally still drags down. 🙂

Each picture is beautiful. I like the colors, the (evening) light, shaddow, motion. My favorite is the kingfisher.

Still amazes me to see the enormous variety of birds you manage to get in front o the camera as where I only get to see maybee two or three, and they don’t sit still !

Thank you for viewing these BIF photos and I’m very happy you liked them! I do see a variety which can change with the seasons. I’m waiting now for some pelicans to start hitting the marsh area as opposed to the ocean where I normally see them. Bad news is alligator season is winding down… 😦

I like the great blue heron 🙂 we have them a lot in germany in the area I come from. But they don’t really let you come too close 😉

Ha! That’s exactly right! We have friends with a little stocked pond in their backyard and a blue heron treats it like a buffet restaurant. Those fish they have to buy to stock the pond are expensive too. 😯 They have tried throwing firecrackers at the heron in hopes of scaring it away but it doesn’t care. 😀

You and me both about the kingfisher. I say this with all due respect and admiration but I hate those little rats with wings! 😉 Yes they drive me crazy. I have yet to get a photo that I can finally relax and say now I have a really good kingfisher shot. Oh well, maybe next time. 🙂
