December Flights

In keeping with the tradition I started several months ago, I’m again posting flight shots for the month that had not been previously posted. And prior to today, these photos have never seen the light of day anywhere.

Here are a few various bird flights taken in December!

  1. We are thrilled and awestruck when we see these elegant flyers doing what they do so well. We are also awestruck (and envious) when we see the results of what YOU do so well. Thank you, Phil

  2. Phil, your work is spectacular – that’s all there is to say, really. From the tension and torque in the wing-tip feathers of the American White Pelican, to the water-skimming technique of the GBH, I was hooked. But then came the Great Egret, loudly announcing its triumphant arrival. The shot made me laugh, and tear up, a little – at the wonder that is there, in nature, and the privilege it is to see these birds through your lens. It seems to me that shot is a portrait, and also the magnificent landing shot of the Snowy Egret, looking to left (and right) before landing. They’re images that will remain in my mind.

Enough of that! Happy New Year again 🙂

    • I can not express how pleased I am to read your very kind words. I so value the time you clearly take to view each photo and how you take sincere meaning from them. This is tremendously appreciated!
With much thanks and best wishes for a healthy happy New Year!

  3. The images are not only beautiful but also very instructive in identifying the differences in flight of these birds. I scrolled back and forth for the different colors of the feet and beaks of the egrets. Relative size not as much help in flight. Your images are far better than any I’ve seen in any of my bird books. Very impressive work, Phil.

    • Thank you very much Gunta, I truly appreciate your very kind words and I’m thrilled you are enjoying my bird and wildlife photos. Thanks for your continued support and interest!
      Happy New Year!
      Phil

  4. What superb photos Phil, what wonderful prints they would make. The hawk reminds me of a print I have in my Spanish dining room, except the one I have is sitting so far easier to capture/sketch. It’s not just the beauty of your photos though, the beauty of the birds and their flight comes out on every single one.

I can’t pick out a favourite, because they are all wonderful (I’ll run out of superlatives soon) but I have to say the white ibis remind me of some of the low fast ‘planes we sometimes see flying over Gibraltar!

(just realised I’m not following you, so I’ll put that right).

    • Thank you very much for looking and commenting on these flight shots. I’m so happy you have been enjoying them. I also greatly appreciate your kind comments.
And hey thanks for the Follow!
      Happy New Year

  5. What a fantastic December bird collection you gathered here Phil. You are so fortunate to be able to enjoy so many water birds. And the Coopers Hawk photo? Amazing, you can really get a good look at what one looks like. We’re always trying to figure out if it’s a cooper or a sharpie.
Hope you’re having a wonderful New Years!
