Morning Hunt
This morning I was surprised to see an alligator over in a section of the salt marsh where I don’t normally see them. This one was apparently on the hunt for something a little different because I saw him come up with some odd looking crab that had translucent legs. Maybe the alligator was in the mood for something exotic and figured if it hunted in a new location it would possibly find some new food…and this one sure did!
The last image I could swear he/she is smiling and rubbing her tummy saying, “Yum,yum!”
Oh I think he is smiling! He caught a bunch of stuff in there and seemed to be happy with his morning.
My thoughts exactly, Beverly ! I was grinning myself, actually :).
He seems to enjoy his snack. I’m glad I’m not his snack. Great pics.
I would not want this guy grabbing me by the ankle. Thanks for looking!
I think I see a touch of Periodontitis. He probably hasn’t had a check up in years.
I’ve been trying to arrange for the mobile dental clinic to set up a day to come by to give them all nice teeth cleanings but so far they are not going for it. 😕 I guess they are just busy.
What a handsome fellow!!!
Oh he is plenty handsome alright! At least that’s what I told him this morning when he walked up out of there and right toward me. 😯 🙂
Can an alligator look smug? Because I think this one looks like he thinks he deserves a gold medal for finding something new and different for supper.
They almost always look smug is you ask me. Or they have this look like they really know something you don’t. It occasionally concerns me that they may be right about that.
It appears that it is quite simple to make an alligator happy.
It’s better for everybody if the alligators are happy. Well…I guess it’s not so good for the crabs though.
All that seems to be missing is the burp:)
I think I heard that shortly after taking the pics.
He laughs and laughs! Because he probably had fun? ☺
I think he had fun, I know I did. 🙂
What a fantastic serie of this gator ! He seems pleased with himself for finding something new and delicate to eat 😉 // Maria
He did seem quite pleased with himself over this unusual catch. But I’m sure he would have eaten practically anything that moved. 🙂
Incredible!!! wow you really captured this alligator superbly. The images are so sharp, I love the water running out of the mouth, the entire series is just great. Love all of them well done.
cheers Callie
Well I truly appreciate your very kind comments Callie, thanks.
He looks mighty pleased with himself. Terrific sequence of pictures!
Thanks for checking these out and glad you like ’em!
Woah, Nellie! Don’t let that smile fool ya! 🙂
He can be a sneaky guy so yes indeed it’s not a good idea to be misled by that happy smile. 🙂
Magnificent photos – I simply MUST get myself an alligator to photograph.
Oh you absolutely have to get one! They are endlessly entertaining! 😀
Thanks, glad you enjoyed these pics Andrew!
Awesome shots of the gator Phil.
Glad you liked these gator pics Jan.
Well, we all like to try a new restaurant from time to time! Great pictures yet again -no wonder you won the depreview photo contest – congratulations, Phil!
Thanks very much Maggie, happy you enjoyed these and I appreciate your kind comments!
Nice details! I love that you can see his tongue so close up.
Thanks much I appreciate you checking these out.
Hello Phil,
everyone is happy if the aligator have his snacky 😉
Gorgeous series, brilliant pics!
Wish you a nice weekend,
moni
Oh yes, we always want Mr. Alligator to be happy and he is very happy when he has his snakys!
Thanks very much moni!
Wooow, great photos, but… he’s scary!!! :O
Thanks glad you like the pics but he is very cute right?! 😀
It’s got its eye on you Phil.
I’m too big for this boy but I still would not want him to lock onto my ankle.
Looks like he might be flossing!
I think he needs a little work done on those choppers. 🙂
Maybe he can’t afford the dental work?
Probably not. The liability insurance costs for the alligator dentists drive up the price of even routine visits for teeth cleaning.
Good point.
What a handsome devil! Fabulous shots Phil!
Well I will surely pass along your compliment the next time I see him and I know I will see him again. They love new fans!
Thanks Adrian 🙂
Those are great photos!
You are also brave to get that close to him.
I’m happy you like the photos and he was not very interested in me, he wanted a seafood breakfast of fish and crabs. 🙂
Fantastic close-ups… Love that face!
Thanks! He does have quite the charming face doesn’t he?! 🙂
I think I may have dated this chap
He has one of those faces for sure.
He sure looks very happy with himself. 🙂 Wonderful pics again, Phil.
He does look quite pleased with himself doesn’t he?! Thanks Sylvia!
Great shots! Regarding the crab, I’d be willing to bet it was either a juvi, or maybe had recently molted. I do believe crabs molt on a periodic basis in order to grow larger, and their new carapace has to harden each time. I wouldn’t be surprised if the new carapace was soft and tranclucent early on…making them a tasty, and easy to chew/swallow morsel for a croc! 🙂
I believe you are correct about that. I do not normally see crabs in that state, just the regular hard shell.
I bet our pal Mr. Gator here really enjoyed his snack though. 🙂
seems he says “He he he”…. 🙂 You are amazing. Thanks and Love, nia
He looked very happy, thanks Nia!
OMG ! You can look right down his throat!! Crazy shots Phil. Wonder if it might have been a softshell.
It was wild watching this guy slosh around for crabs and fish! Could have been a molting crab I suppose.
