Time To Go!
I was watching this tricolored heron fishing in the marsh yesterday morning when it suddenly decided it was immediately time to leave. I don’t know what the big rush was…but he jumped right out at me as he quickly departed the area!
I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.

Amazing capture, Phil. Love it. You’re never caught napping, are you? 🙂
Thanks very much Sylvia, I took a break from my nap because Mr. Alligator was nearby and started to get restless. But that is a post for another day. 😉 😀
What strange looking wings from this angle. They look more like feathery oars! Nice shot.
That’s a really good description Deb I had not thought of that…feathery oars. 🙂
Great shot. SImply amating.
Thanks for checking it out.
It was as always a pleasure to check it out.
🙂
He was in a hurry to find the grill, so you get your fish-lunch in time!
So now you have made me hungry, I’m thinking of firing up my grill now! 🙂
Oh, I’m so sorry!
Or not? 😉
Not at all, I love my grill! 😀
Friday is the tadpole special at the heron lounge. Supplies are limited. Liftoff!
That must be it, we get so many tourists here around the Myrtle Beach area and the heron lounge is usually hopping!
It was Thirsty Thursday too! 😀
FANTASTISCH!!!
Thank you I am glad you like it!
Great shot! This angle reminds me of a very long-winged balsa aircraft I saw on the news recently…..
Thanks! I can see what you mean it does look like the wings of that plane.
What a great capture. That is one huge wingspan.
Thanks very much, and it’s funny too because it looks like a smallish sort of bird when it’s just picking around in the marsh but those wings do look quite wide.
Smashing take off!! 🙂
He really went quick too! So fast my camera caught wing blur. 🙂
Great action shot Phil, wonderful capture.
Thank you Jan I’m happy you enjoyed this photo!
A very unusual angle to see one of my favourites! I love the way the light catches the blue on its head!
It’s too bad that he was facing exactly right toward me because if it was at a bit of an angle you could see how blue his whole long beak was. 🙂
Oops. I missed that this was yesterday. Thirsty Thursday and all the crayfish you can spear. 🙂
Sure sounds like an excellent Happy Hour!
Did you get a feather? The heron looks a little gawky captured at this angle. Fabulous picture!
They do look rather gawky when coming right at you, it’s not generally their best side. Don’t tell him I said that I don’t want to hear complaints later.
Glad you liked the pic though!
Fascinating angle Phil. The wings look like massive paddles.
Thanks Andrew. Yes they really do look like huge paddles and I’m surprised how big it’s wings look, because the tri is one of the smaller waders.
Such interesting looking wings. Great shot!
Maybe he saw the alligator close by and decided to avoid being his lunch.
Thanks!
The alligator was quite close by but it was interesting because there were other birds around besides this tri and the gator ignored them all.
Extraordinary shot Phil – the way his wings look like remote feathered paddle hands remote from his body!
Thanks very much and yes it is interesting how large his wings do look especially considering it’s one of the smaller waders.
It is like watching the plane flying right over, what a photo.
They are quite aero-dynamically designed. 🙂 Thanks Charlie!
Amazing picture Phil!
Thanks I appreciate you checking it out Adrian!
Whoa, Phil, that is an awesome capture! 😉
Well I’m really happy you like it Ruth, thanks!
Awesome shot!
Thanks very much Hans, glad you liked it!
And of course..you got perfect focus. Fantastic!
Well I greatly appreciate your kind comments Emily!
