Marsh Baby
Yesterday at early evening we saw this baby alligator (we call any gator 5 feet and under a “baby”) slogging his way along the salt marsh area at low tide. He made only a few half-hearted attempts at catching fish or crabs so we figured he was not interested in feeding and more then likely just wanted to get out of the salt water and back to his regular pond. This turned out to indeed be the case as he started slowly slinking up onto the mud and over to the edge of the marsh. After taking a brief look around the ‘baby’ climbed over the rocks and carefully ambled his way up out of the salt marsh and over to his pond.

The texture of the “skin” (?) is wonderfully captured in your shots. Who would have thunk alligators could be so fascinating. I never thought I’d ever say such a thing!!!

Often when they are young they have quite pretty (is that the right word?) coloration. The stripes and different patterns are fascinating and I’m glad you feel the same way.

Oh sure he is sweet! So cute I want to scoop him up and bring him home. Not sure how the cats would feel about that though.

Yes when they are still fairly young like this one they do have some very beautiful colorations including stripes which make them very photogenic. 🙂

Yeah but unlike us, in their world they have to content with ones that are 8 feet long and bigger. That is a huge size difference for an alligator especially one that is headed right for you and does not have a friendly look on it’s face. 😯
