Fishing At Pond’s Edge
Early this afternoon there were a couple of white ibis fishing in the shallow water along the rocks at the edge of the marsh pond. They seemed to have considerable success plucking out these small fish that I suspect were moving very slowly if at all due to the cold water temperature. The fish were easy pickings for the ibis who last time I looked appeared to be settled in for the day taking advantage of the great fishing to be had at pond’s edge.
E’ riuscito a farsi una bella mangiata!!!
Splendidi scatti caro Phil.
Ciao, Pat
Egli ha ottenuto un buon pasto! Grazie per guardare queste foto 🙂
The ibis had an all you can eat buffet it looks like. It is such a pretty bird, nice photos, Phil.
That ibis sure knew what it was doing. It found a good fishing spot and was sticking with it. They are really fun and interesting birds.
What an amazingly long bill he has! Great pics, Phil. 🙂
Oh yeah Sylvia it is a very long bill and they make the most of it when feeding. The ibis can pull out food most other birds would miss.
The good life (for the ibis, perhaps not the fish)! 🙂 Perfect pics!
They were having a sweet time of it for sure! I think those fish were a bit lethargic and the ibis took advantage!
Excellent shots Phill.
Thanks very much Jan.
Looks like he was hungry. Terrific shots Phil.
I’m betting he was plenty hungry especially after a few cold days but he made up for it just fine!
How perfectly fitted they are for fishing! Beautiful eyes!
Yes in the right circumstances they can’t be beat! 🙂 And this time everything came together perfectly!
very beautiful photo!!!
I’m very happy you enjoyed the photos!
Do the ibises swallow them whole in a single gulp like a heron? In one of the shots, the ibis looks like it is chewing on a fish.
Mike they do both. Sometimes it’s a quick gulp and other times they have to work at it. I have seen an ibis spend 15 minutes demolishing a large crab.
Oh, that last photograph! Such detail! I love the ibis’s eyecolor, and how in contrasts with the bill. Bill is graceful.
Great Set!! Thanks Phil
super shot, perfect , LG Thee
