Not Fast Enough
Recently I watched this snowy egret excitedly break into a full run in the salt marsh during low tide. The snowy had seen something for sure, likely a fish, and was in a hurry to get it. Unfortunately, snowball must have arrived just a fraction of a second too late because he came with nothing but water for all his effort!
Life can be so darn frustrating!
Yes it can, especially when you get so excited you can taste the prize then it gets snatched away from you at the last second.
What brilliant white plumage. Looks pretty much like our Snowy dog!
We have an all white cat, named Ripley and sometimes when she acts up I threaten to change her name to something overly cutesy like “Snowball”. That usually puts her back in line. 🙂
The light hitting the bird, all the detail in its body and the feathers – lots to like here. There doesn’t look like there’s a lot of meat on those bones so it might have missed a few times.
It was that late in the day, just prior to sunset lighting that is often very flattering to the birds and I like to shoot in those conditions as well.
Snowys are pretty much always kind of skinny birds, I can’t recall ever seeing a particularly plump snowy.
As if seems want to walk surface of the water… amazing photographs again, always fascinates me. Thank you dear Phil, love, nia

Wonderful shots and excellent lighting.
Thanks Jan, I do like the light at that time of day.
I felt just like that egret when I ran a marathon. All hard work but nothing in return except creaky knees…beautiful shots!
Well at least you ran a marathon. I ran to the refrigerator once to get a beer. Ok, in truth I just walked quickly.
Glad you liked the photos of snowball!
Well, now I hobble to the fridge since the marathon. At least you’re walking quickly!
Always fun to experience reality, even birds have bad days.!
It can be a hard life out there in the marsh sometimes. You miss the fish and you don’t eat.
But there is always next time.
the snowy egret is gorgeous! The water splash… wow!!
They are pretty bird and for once were not fighting. Oh, I guess it was because this one had nobody to fight with. 🙂
Aww, darn it. He sure is checking to make sure. Next time! Love his beautiful white against the water.
He seemed shocked and disappointed when he pulled up his bill and there was nothing in it. Oh well… next time.
Utterly gorgeous lighting and detail, particularly in that last shot where I can almost count the feathers. Sheer perfection – both your capture and the snowy, too.
Thanks a million for the kind words Gunta and glad you liked the pics of snowball!
Fabulous photos! The snowy is one of my favorites.
Yeah I like these little guys a lot too, they are just so darn feisty and always on the go. 🙂
This is amazing that you caught the action!
I have to keep my eyes open with these little guys because they move quickly and unpredictably. 🙂
You have it down I think !!!
