All That Hard Work And Practice Really Paid Off!

I’d been hearing so much about the new synchronized flying team made up of a great blue heron and a great egret and was hoping to see them in action. Well the chance finally came when they put on this exhibition in the salt marsh. They have the technique down perfectly and they absolutely nailed the landing!

These two really put on a terrific show and if they should come to a town near you I strongly recommend checking them out, you will not be disappointed.

    • Yeah well that’s the thing…once they start co-mingling the species that’s when the inevitable squabbles will break out.
      Supposedly that builds character, but not sure that’s how they see it. No alligators on the team so far so that should tell ya something right there.

    • They really are something aren’t they?!? I understand they are considering adding our well known dysfunctional spoonbill Mr. Grumpy to the act. That should draw huge crowds to the Crankyville area who won’t want to miss this extraordinary event!

  10. They must have been doing some serious rehearsals. I can’t believe how mirrored they are! You guys are so lucky to be able to see this in person. That is quite a dance. And not a bite, territorial tuft, or other squabble in sight!

    • Oh I expect they certainly did put in some serious rehearsal time, and it shows!
      The funny thing is though, normally an egret and a blue heron don’t get along all that well, but these two managed to work out their differences.

  16. It is funny, but I just left you a comment on my post that I am photographing a lot of “your birds”. Your herons are up here now, but I can’t get nearly as close to them as you. Plus, they don’t do anything but stand there motionless. They just started arriving two weeks ago. Your photos are beautiful, and I wish the Great Egret was here. It will be a bit before we see Egrets – my favorite wader.

    • We are lucky in that we can see an egret or blue heron most any time of the year. We have four small ponds around our little neighborhood and there are often egrets or herons around somewhere. But of course I never photograph those birds, they are too much like back yard birds in that setting so I drive over to the marsh to look for them. 🙂

Beautiful pictures, they are really something, but doubt Egrets would be coming this way, too far up North!!!! even in the summer, I never saw them in NYC, well, and doubt they will be in the adirondacks, never saw them on Long Island either, I think they are more of a southern bird, I only saw them in Florida, and last year I was living there near the ocean, and it was weird, I hardley every saw any, since that Gulf Oil Spill, very sad, and the pelicans also seemed to go down in number alot also in florida….put enough of that, your pictures have given me the go-ahead to move where its warmer, and also are really beautiful pictures.
