Dancing For Dinner
Tricolored Herons will often rush wildly back and forth and around in circles chasing the little fish that make up a significant portion of their diet.
This past weekend we were entertained by the antics of this active tri that seemed to be dancing his way around the marsh pond!

That is entertaining! It’s certainly got some good moves.

He put on a heck of a show for sure. He seemed to be equally entertaining himself as well as me.

He has a nice technique but uses a ton of energy to get a few fish!

Beautiful clear action shots. So funny to watch them when they do that.

They are a lot of fun to watch and I wonder how they decide whether to use the dancing technique, or their regular low tot he water stalking.

That last pose looks completely ballerina like. A tutu would have been nice. 🙂

This bird may be more of a twerker then a ballerina. 🙂

Maybe like Ellen, the heron wanted everyone else dancing too!

Sadly, the heron had no other friends out there to dance with and I was the only audience member.

At least he performed nicely for you! I wish they would dance up here. We must have more serious herons.

This one must really enjoy it too. The next day he was back in the same spot and dancing again. There were several tri’s around but no others behaving like that so it had to be the same one.

He is sort of dainty but deadly too when it comes to dancing over and grabbing a fish. 🙂

They are pretty birds but I think the juvie tris in their deep red color are even more attractive then the adults.
