I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.
A great blue heron came swooping into the salt marsh late this afternoon just as I was leaving. The tide was still up and the water was at pelican depth, so I wasn’t expecting any of the large wading birds to show up…but glad this guy did!

What a perfectly beautiful photo you took of this Blue Heron
One of your best.

Thanks Maria I’m glad you liked this GBH shot. It was getting dark already so I was lucky to have this guy come in close.

Up close like this, they look absolutely primordial.

They kinda do have a prehistoric look to them. Wood storks the same.

I feel the same Sylvia, even though I see them often I will never pass on an opportunity to grab more pics whenever possible. 🙂

This photo is so interesting to me compared to the recent one where Mr. GBH was tucked in and streamlined. He’s got his neck stretched out here. The colors are amazing, and the background is beautifully muted.

It was interesting how this bird was flying in…rather then just a straight on arrival, it kind of did a circling loop which provided this somewhat unique view. 🙂
