Pelican Coming And Going

A pelican this afternoon was working the salt marsh hard as the tide was coming in and bringing fish in with it.

The big guy made several back and forth passes in front of the reeds and just above the oyster beds.

Warmer weather made it a busy day out there today. In addition to the pelican, we had a bald eagle, osprey, egrets, herons, the usual assortment of little shore birds and of course some alligators were out soaking up the sun. 🙂

I had to laugh at the second photo. The pelican looked like it was thinking, “Big mistake.” All the photos are wonderful, but that last two are fabulous.

  The water was still fairly shallow so I’m continually surprised when they fish like that and yes indeed do occasionally make some bad decisions.

  Thanks so much Sylvia! I’m actually surprised these guys have stayed in the salt marsh area for so long. We can almost always see some out along the ocean but not always in the inlet like this.

  They are fun birds and what’s interesting is that earlier in the winter we saw so many juveniles now we almost only see the adults like this one.
