Heavy Landing
When I saw this brown pelican come dropping by for a close in landing this past week, I realized they are quite large birds.
They just really look bulky and heavy.
I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.

One of the special gifts in our world.

Isn’t it incredible how agile they are, though! I know I bang on about this but close up, they are even more the globemasters of the bird world, aren’t they?!

These guys sure do look like they could carry and deliver some very heavy cargo!

Did you get splashed, Phil? I just don’t see those birds doing delicate landings.

I didn’t get splashed this time Mike but they sure can make a huge splash when they hit the water and they are not exactly dainty about it either. 🙂

Perhaps they are not the most graceful of birds when landing but I love watching them glide effortlessly through the sky.

Oh they can be rather elegant flyers but pelicans often hit the water like they were just tossed from a moving vehicle. 🙂
