I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.
What I have never been able to figure out is how they avoid smashing that long bill into an oyster bed just beneath the surface. Especially with how fast they fly.
I wish I was sometimes. I try to request they move or fly a certain way and they usually ignore me. They don’t take direction as well as you might think. 🙂
Non avevo mai visto questo uccello, bello e molto particolare.
Splendide le tue foto. Un caro saluto, Patrizia
Grazie Pat! 😀
Great captures. Love the trails in the first one.
Thanks so much and I always like seeing that trail they make too!
Although I have never seen a skimmer in the feather, I love them and always enjoy images of them. Thanks for sharing these, Phil.
Thanks a million Steve, glad you like the skimmer.
Wonderful! I just love skimmers. Their bills are so strange.

Beautiful Bird, love the colors, great shot Phil, thank you!!!!
Thanks a bunch Linda glad you liked the skimmer shots!
They are such a beautiful bird. Wonderful captures.
They really are pretty birds! Thanks for looking.
I’ve never seen a skimmer … so I enjoyed these even more.
I’m very happy you enjoyed seeing the skimmer in action!
I just decided you must be a “wetland whisperer!”

There has to be a way to work in cooperation. I’ll think about it.
What beautiful pictures these are, Phil? What is a yellowlegs? This skimmer is such a striking bird!
A yellowlegs is a small shore bird shown in fourth pic down. They have yellow legs. Who was the creative genius that came up with that name?!
Great set, Phil!
Thanks so much for looking and commenting!
Superb captures, Phil. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the skimmer pics Sylvia, thanks.
What great captures of their action! These guys are really fast looking and I so enjoy their technique! 🙂
I just can’t understand how they don’t have more wrecks out there. They zip by so fast I don’t know how they avoid a crash.
Wonderful shots! Something is working right there!
Thanks very much! Well still need to do more testing but results here on a dark bird in dim lighting turned out fairly positive.
Awesome photos, Phil!
Thanks very much Deb, glad you enjoyed the skimmer pics!
I’ve never seen a skimmer before – once again you introduce me to something new! Fabulous photos my friend.
Well I’m happy you enjoyed seeing a new resident of our local neighborhood marsh!
