“Hey Fellas Watch This!”
Our resident cranky pants spoonbill was getting along fine with a trio of white ibis recently when he apparently decided to show off. He suddenly lifts off and leap frogs over the ibis delivering a nice shower to them as seen in photo #3. Far from being impressed however…the ibis simply went right back to feeding and mostly just ignored the spoonbill’s dramatic display. Perhaps they were happy to see Mr. Grump leave the area!
If cranky leaves the marsh, you’re going to lose a consistent source of fodder for your blog
Don’t I know it! And I have not seem him in a few days. 😯 I should have signed him to a contract when I had the chance.
No worries, he was out there last night putting on a show for us all.
What a show off!!! 😀
Yes he sure is!
Probably a case of “if we ignore him maybe he will stay away”.
That could very well be their plan. It should work too, I think he craves attention.
Oh so now Mr. Cranky is Mr. Showoff? This bird reminds me of my cat.
He really enjoys being the center of everyone’s attention *if* that’s what he wants at the time he wants.
Sort of like, well… a cat. You nailed it exactly right.
LOL…show-off!
Oh he is a show off for sure!
I hope he comes back. Despite his expression in the first photo (wow, what “I am king here” bully look), I’d really miss him. Hope the ibis enjoyed the “rainfall”. 😉
I hope he comes back also. In fact I’m heading out shortly to check his usual areas so hope I spot him. I’m not sure the ibis appreciated getting rained on, but it’s just part of what they have to put up with. 🙂
He was back last night! 🙂
Despite being etiquette-challenged, he certainly is a beautiful bird!
He likely knows he is good looking.
When you look back on this post here: https://phillanoue.com/2013/08/13/walking-the-runway/
it’s the same bird and he put on that routine for no reason that I could see other then a proud strut.
He was showing off, don’t blame him though 🙂
He was back last night in full show off mood! He put on quite a show. Pics to come…
Phil
Look forward to your post every day. You capture the best shots of Mr. A and I look forward to your post everyday. I envy you to be able to this every day. We enjoy wild life and bird photography the best. What camera and lens do you shoot with?
Thanks very much for looking and commenting and I’m glad you enjoy the wildlife photos.
I use a Canon 7D with a Canon 300 f4 with a 1.4 extender attached.
Another fantastic catch! Seems you never run out of material at that marsh of yours.
Thanks there is (almost) always something going on. Our cranky friend was back last night and put on a great show for us. 🙂
The nick name suits him perfectly, but he is irresistible 😀
He is totally irresistible for sure Paula! In fact we found him last night and he put on a heck of a show and I had to keep snapping pics, I just had to! 🙂
😀 I know you had to 🙂
It’s crazy too, doesn’t matter if I already have 500 photos of him, when he starts prancing around holding his wings up and posing, I’ll take 500 more. Can’t help it. 🙂
🙂 I think I understand 🙂
He did it, and I did it again yesterday. I must have taken 300 photos of the pink goofy bird! 🙂
Have fun Phil 😀
Mr Spoonbill … He is just adorable even if his behaviour not always are so good 😉 … // Maria 🙂
Yes that is true, he is great to watch and photograph but sometimes his actions are a bit out of line.
Thanks Maria!
A perfect take off, outstanding Photography Phil.
Thank you very much Jan, these birds make it easy for me sometimes.
What a show-off! I think they were quite right to give him the “That don’t impress me much” treatment. Shana Twain would have been proud of their indifference. 🙂 Great shots, Phil.
Thanks very much Sylvia, and yes those ibis were so totally not impressed. But they may pay the price for that the next time Mr. Cranky drops in. 🙂
How mortifying for Mr Grumpy – serves him right!
It does serve him right, but those ibis better be careful. I believe our cranky pink friend holds grudges. 🙂
Hey fellas…REALLY cool!!
I am very happy you enjoyed these! Thanks
That first shot is hilarious, Phil. He looks so disappointed by the lack of attention he’s getting.
