I previously worked as a news and sports photographer. Recently I have been enjoying wildlife photography. My approach toward bird photos is similar to sports photography. I attempt to capture mostly action and hopefully a unique perspective.
This great blue heron remains on alert at the edge of the marsh pond as the afternoon winds down. The late day setting sunshine highlights him rather well…
Che primo piano fantastico, sei un vero portento Phil 🙂
Grazie molto Sono felice ti è piaciuto questa foto 🙂
What amazing shot… I need to learn how to make some greate once like this one. Lol
Thank you very much for your kind words!
Yes, he does look wonderful, with his profile gilded by the sunlight. I think he would definitely approve of this portrait. 🙂
I think he would like it, he looks quite handsome. Not as much as Mr. A perhaps but still good.
The light that highlights his neck is beautiful.
Well it helps that he looks so good. Such a natural. Thanks Jeff.
Great, great light. So warm. He’s so pretty!
He sure is a looker that’s for sure! Glad you like the GBH!
Wow!! Now that’s what I call a “jump right out at you and slap you in the face so you’ll notice it” kind of capture. I love the lighting so much!!
Thanks so much I greatly appreciate that!
Definitely heron approved. Just when you think it couldn’t get better, the setting sun makes it better.
I did get a lot of help from the sun on this one.
Very nice portrait Phil. Lovely soft light.
Thank you Andrew, the heron made it easy.
Everything on earth looks better in low light. How close were you? Love it!
Well he sure made the most of his lighting!
That’s my buddy Hank, he was right in front of me. 🙂

Thanks so much Hans and I’ll be sure to check out the new blog!
He looks like he’s glowing! I wish I could have that lighting every day at sun down!
We should all go around with a professional lighting crew in tow.
Looks like he’s surveying his kingdom with all the confidence of youth! Backlighting is lovely !
He does look quite confident doesn’t he?! Thanks Judy!
Great light. I love the curves.
Thanks a million, so glad you like this shot!
Phil, somehow you take an already beautiful creature even more beautiful.
